I. JTT OVERVIEW

  • JTT is one of the largest Industrial Fireproofing contractors in North America. We are unique in that we perform both shop and field fireproofing thus eliminating issues with warranty, damage, rework etc. We have 9 shops throughout the US and 4 in Canada.
  • We are certified and experienced in all types of fireproofing including Cementitious, Lightweight Cementitious (Pyrocrete, Fendolite,etc.) and Intumescent (Chartek, Thermolag, PITT-Char,Firetex, etc.). We are also in good standing and an approved and recommended contractor with International, Carboline, Sherwin Williams and Isolatek to name a few.
  • JTT has a large pool of craftsmen, supervision and resources available to successfully execute this project turnkey, from start to finish.

Project Management:

JTT is unique within the Industrial Fireproofing industry as it is both an Engineering and Construction firm. We can provide technical input, planning, scheduling and cost control that is unrivaled in the industry.

Project Manager:

The JTT project manager controls all aspects of the job and is the central point of contact throughout the Project from planning through to invoicing. Responsibilities include:

Proposal - Scheduling - Pre-Project Work - Project Management and Execution - Oversee QC program - Schedule (Will be updating weekly) - Progress reporting (Will be updated weekly) - Post project reports

Quality Control Program:

JTT has detailed, industry leadingfireproofing quality control programfor Intumescent Structural Steel Fireproofing. JTT will submit for approval the following:

  • Procedures
  • Inspection and Test Plan
  • Submittals per project requirements

J.T. Thorpe & Son, Inc. recognizes the responsibility of producing a quality final product and providing evidence and documentation of this quality to the customer.

II. FIREPROOFING SCOPE OF WORK

The following is a basic overview of the scope of work JTT will provide:

a)JTT will provide experienced fireproofing craftsmen and supervision.

b)Submittal and approval of all documents of structural steel fireproofing – i.e. ITP; Data Sheets; etc.

c)JTT will provide unloading of all structural steel delivered to JTT Fireproofing Facility in –BATON ROUGE, LA.

d)JTT will provide all required labor, equipment, and materials to complete the project per Fireproofing Scope Options listed below.

e)JTT will provide loading of all fireproofed structural steel onto 3rd party freight by others.

f)Submittal of QC documentation including release and acceptance of all work completed.

OPTION 1: LIGHT-WEIGHT CEMENTITIOUS SCOPE - 2HR UL 1709

  1. JTT will supply and install Fendolite M-II/P or Pyrocrete 240HY.
  1. J.T. Thorpe will comply with manufacturer’s written instructions for material storage, mixing, application procedures, and types of equipment used to apply fireproofing to achieve a 2 hour UL1709 fire-resistance rating.
  1. J.T. Thorpe will install expanded metal lath in accordance to fire-resistance designs indicated and fireproofing manufacturer’s recommendations. Clips, Corner Beads, and Hilti stud shots (.27 caliber) will be fastened for mesh support. Wire mesh will be lapped a minimum of 2” at joints.
  1. JTT will install Cementitious Fireproofing, to a fire rating of 2 Hour, per UL 1709 Boxed installation on Structural Steel.
  1. JTT shall caulk using Acrilast Caulking, or equivalent, any intersects of steel to fireproofing where water may enter due to an ending of the material, such as the top flanges of beams, the upper level of column fireproofing, and similar areas.
  1. JTT will apply weatherproofing sealer, WB 500 or Carboguard 1340, over all applied Lightweight Cementitious Fireproofing in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  1. JTT will perform a final inspection for uniformity of thickness.

OPTION 2: INTUMESCENT SCOPE- 2HR UL 1709

1)JTT will supply and install Chartek 1709, Thermolag 3000, or Pitt Char XP.

2)JTT will complete post Galvanizing Surface Prep to SSPC-SP1 and SSPC-SP7 or 16 per chart below (option pricing provided for this step).

3)JTT will apply primer as required by manufacturer per chart below (option pricing provided for this step).

4)JTT will spray undercoats of epoxy intumescent and roll out to maintain consistent thickness. JTT will utilize PFP Heated Plural-Component Sprayers.

5)JTT will inspect for thickness and uniformity.

6)At mid thickness JTT will install manufacturer approved carbon fiber composite Mesh.

7)JTT will spray coats of intumescent to achieve a 2 HR per UL 1709 thickness on Structural Steel.

8) JTT will perform a final inspection for uniformity of thickness per chart below.

9)JTT will install a top coat per manufacturer requirements per chart below.

OPTION 3: DENSE CONCRETE SCOPE - 2HR UL 1709

  1. JTT will install 2”x 2” galvanized wire mesh confirming to ASTM A185 and shall be overlapped a minimum of 4” and tied with galvanized steel wire 12” on center.
  1. JTT will utilize powder actuated Hilti combo shots to anchor the wire to the steel, while providing the specified spacing away from the steel surface.
  1. JTT will install a normal weight Portland Cement type HS fireproofing concrete, 4000 PSI, with a high early mix design.
  1. JTT will install concrete fireproofing material on Structural Steel to a minimum thickness of 2”, box, fully encased design. Material to be a mix of Portland cement, sand and aggregate of ½” maximum size with a minimum compressive strength of 2,500 psi after 28 days. All corners will have a ¾” to 1” chamfer.
  2. JTT will install caulk along the upper flange edge of structural members and other steel joints that shall not be fireproofed

III. Schedule

  • JTT has estimated the quantity of fireproofing to be approximately 374,480 SQFT.
  • Assuming the release of structural steel allows for a continuous and sequential operation, this work can be completed per below schedules.
  • The schedule can be improved if required.
  • JTT can produce a detailed schedule and durations based on quantities and dates of incoming steel shipments that can meet customer demand.

IV. PRICING

(All pricing is based on completing at least 374,480 SQFT of Fireproofing)

Light Weight Cementitious:

  • Fendolite M/II-P (15/16”; XR-725):$ 19.55 per SQFT @ 20 weeks
  • Pyrocrete 240HY (1”; XR-717):$ 19.69 per SQFT @ 23 weeks

Epoxy Intumescent:

  • Thermolag 3000 (310 mils; XR-618):$ 28.82 per SQFT @ 22 weeks
  • Chartek 1709 (421 mils; XR-625):$ 34.35 per SQFT @ 22 weeks
  • Pitt-Char XP (520 mils; XR-612):$ 41.99 per SQFT @ 23 weeks

(Option Pricing: Blast and Prime per above scope - $1.50 per SQFT)

Concrete:

  • Concrete Fireproofing (2”; Boxed Design):$ 42.63 per CUFT @ 22 weeks

(Based on 2.5 SQFT per CUFT)

VII. Clarifications/Qualifications

  1. Our price does not include any installation of flashing.
  1. Our price does not include any sales or use taxes on materials. If applicable, these taxes will be billed in addition to the contract amount.
  1. Our pricing is based on fireproofing at least375,000 SQFT of steel. Significant decrease in SQFT, beyond 15%, can result in unit price adjustment.
  1. Pricing is based onabove listed durations. Significant increase or decrease in duration can result in unit price adjustment.
  1. Sqft. unit rates apply to the entire surface of the steel with no deduction for blockouts. Sqft calculated per JTT standard calculation sheet attached.
  1. Blockouts shall be determined by others. Detailed blockout drawings will be required.
  1. No laboratory testing of test samples of fireproofing materials is included in our price.
  1. Our price is based on the current craft labor rates good thru 6/1/15. In the event of labor rate increases the contract amount will be adjusted accordingly.
  1. JTT offers a standard warranty on workmanship for 12 months after completion of the project by J.T. Thorpe & Son, Inc.
  1. Transportation is not included in pricing.
  1. Our shop work is to be a continuous and sequential operation. Our pricing is based on limited delays or interference beyond our control. Some (but not all) examples of delays that could potentially occur are:
  • Non-receipt or late-receipt of structural steel from SteelFabricator at an agreed upon time.
  1. JTT reserves the right to review all terms, conditions and provisions of any contract or agreement to which we will become a party or by which it will be bound in the event that our bid proposal is accepted.
  1. Terms of payment are net thirty (30) days via wire transfer.
