Cambria School of Excellence iPad Guidelines

6th and 7th Grade

December 2015

Introduction

CSE recognizes the rapid expansion of modern technology and its benefit to education. It is our focus of to keep pace with this changing world and to better equip our students for the 21stcentury with the essential tools needed. The use of these technologies is a privilege that carries responsibility and behavioral expectations consistent with all school rules and policies.

The iPad is issued to the student on a lease to own basis, as such, the device is considered the property of CSE until the student successfully graduates from the school. The iPad will be issued to students according to the guidelines set forth in this document.

We retain the right to collect and/or inspect the iPad at any time, and to alter, add or delete installed software. Once received, the iPad is the responsibility of the student. The cost to repair or replace the iPad outside of those covered by AppleCare is the student/family’s responsibility.

Apple ID

Apple IDs will not be required for this program. If any changes are made in this regard, you will be immediately notified.

Taking Care of Your iPad

Students are responsible for the general care of the iPad. iPads that are broken or fail to function properly should be taken to the Help Desk for the evaluation of the device. Some general precautions include:

  • iPads must remain in a protective case at all times.
  • Each Student is responsible for the security of the iPad.
  • Do not subject the iPad to extreme heat or cold.
  • Avoid putting excess pressure on the iPad Screen.
  • Avoid placing items which might cause scratches or other damage on the device.
  • Take care not to knock the iPad against walls, floors, lockers or anything hard to avoid breaking the screen.
  • Replacement charges, cases and accessories are the responsibility of the student/family.

The iPad screen should only be cleaned with either a soft cloth or approved laptop screen cleaning solution available at most electronics stores.

Using the iPad at Schooland Preparedness

Students are required to have a fully charged iPad every day. Individual teachers may impose additional policies for their individual classes. It is the student’s responsibility to bring the iPad to school every day fully charged. Students that repeatedly are unprepared may be subject to disciplinary action.

Updates

Students should only update the device and iOS operating system under the instruction of the school. Students may not update their device until informed.

iPad identification

The iPads will be labeled in a manner specified by the school. iPads can be identified by a label with the iPad’s serial number and the corresponding child’s name. These labels may not be removed by any student.

Screen Savers and Background Photos

Screensavers and background photos must be appropriately selected.

Security

iPads should be password protected. The students will be encouraged to choose a 4-digit passcode to protect their device. Students are prohibited from sharing this password with anyone else except for their parents/guardians and the school.

Recording

Use of the recording mechanisms of the iPad in class is only permitted with the expressed permission of the teacher in a specific class.

Headphones

Students may have personal headphones to use in conjunction with the school issued iPad. When using headphones in schools, students should be engaged in academic course work. Students may only use headphones in class or study hall with the permission of the teacher.

The following actions are prohibited:

  • Removal of the Mobile Device Management Software (MDM)
  • Illegal installation and transmission of copyrighted material
  • Sending, accessing, downloading or uploading offensive, profane, threatening or obscene materials
  • Use of chat rooms or texting apps
  • ‘Jailbreaking’ the iPad
  • Gaming and/or music on the iPad
  • Use of social networks not previously approved

Preloaded apps and materials provided by Cambria may not be deleted and they must be updated periodically by the school.

Inspection

Students may be asked to provide their iPad for inspection at any time. Inappropriate content will be removed and result in disciplinary action, including voiding this contract and reclaiming the tablet.

Fees

iPads have been bought by the school. Each family is responsible to pay for their yearly insurance and cover, apps and management (to be $125). Charges must be paid when the contract is turned in.

Cambria reserves the right to make the appropriate changes or modifications to this contract, when deemed necessary.

Parent and Student Acknowledgment Contract

I certify that we have received a copy of the iPad Guidelines and it is my responsibility to read and understand the policy contained in this document. I understand that ownership of the iPad remains with CCGC and that the cost of repairing a damaged device or the cost of replacing a stolen device is the sole responsibility of the student/family. Students will not be issued a device without a signed Acknowledgement Contract and payment. I understand and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in this agreement.
