Callfor Grant Proposals:SCRAPublic Policy Initiative

To encourage,promoteand supportpublicpolicyandadvocacyworkbyitsmemberstobenefitcommunities,the SocietyforCommunityResearchand Action’s(SCRA)PolicyCommitteehasinitiated asmall grantsprogram.

Proposalsmayaddress awidevarietyof publicpolicyand advocacyissues, affecting communities atthelocal, state,nationalor internationallevels.Projectsmaytakemanyformsbutpreference will begiventocollaborativeprojectsand thosethatincrease thecapacity of SCRAanditsmembersto engage ineffectiveandinnovativepolicywork.Allapplicationswill besubjecttoblind review.

Who mayapply?

Anyonemayapply,thoughthe lead applicantontheproposalmustbea SCRAmember.Processing feesor anyotherindirect/overheadcoststo fiscalagentsare notallowed.Collaborativeprojectsandpartnerships withcommunityorganizationsarestronglyencouraged.

Whatis themaximumgrant?

Themaximumrequest is$5,000eachwith aminimumof2awards expectedto begrantedduring afunding cycle.TheReviewCommittee willdeterminethe numberandamountoftheawards.

Whatis thedeadline for proposalsandtimeframe for completion?

All grantrequestsmustbereceivedbyMay30th, 2016. TheReviewCommitteeexpectsto notify allapplicants offinaldecisionsbyJune30th, 2016.Theexpectationisthat all projectswillbecompletedwithintwo yearsoffunding approval. Recipientsmustcompleteand submitbrief(1-2pages)statusreportstotheReviewCommittee on January1and June 1ofeachyear untiltheproject is completed.ThestatusreportformcanbeaccessedfromthepolicysectionoftheSCRAwebsiteor requested from .

Recipientsmustalsosubmit a finalprojectsummaryreportwithinonemonthofprojectcompletion.Projectsummariesshouldbenarrativereportsthatinclude a briefoverviewofthe project and therelated policyissue,projectpartners,policyimpact,results,a descriptionofhowfunds wereusedandsuggestionsforfurtherSCRA orcommunity engagementaround theissue.

Whatare the specificstandards andcriteriaupon which Proposalswillbeevaluated?

Noactivitiesmayresultina violation ofSCRA’s501(C)(3)statusoritsby-laws.Proposalswillbeevaluatedbasedon howwellthey:

  • address a currentpublicpolicy issueofimportanceto a communityof interest
  • connecttocommunitypsychology(CP)
  • address a policyareawhereCPhas acontributiontomake
  • demonstratethepotentialto establishor build upon relationshipswithotherorganizations andtheir resources
  • demonstratepotentialtohave asuccessful impact
  • increasecapacity of communities/groups,toinfluencepublicpolicy
  • increasecapacityof SCRA,toinfluencepublicpolicy
  • articulatean appropriatebudgetthateffectivelysupportsthe proposedactivitiesand ensuresaccountabilityof expenditures
  • includes a plan fordisseminationof resultsoroutcome,such asincluding,butnotlimited to,publication in AJCPorTCP,Biennial and/orAPAConferencepresentations,dissemination tothetargetedcommunity, ordisseminationto otherrelevantpublications andstakeholders
  • includes a budgettable(SCRA doesnotallowindirects/overhead)and projecttimelinetable

Howwillthegrantfunding bedisbursed?

Generally,recipientswill beawarded80%upon thestart oftheproject,with the remaining20%awardedafter a successful reviewof the oneyear statusreport.Allapplicantsshall include a timetablewith deliverables, as appropriate, andmay propose othertiming with justification.
