Rescheduled (again!) Swimming Carnival
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you know, this morning we had to postpone our swimming carnival again. Our third (and final!) attempt to hold our school carnival will be on Monday 13th February at Warilla Swimming Pool.
Children from Years 3-6 are expected to attend. Year 2 students who turn 8 years old this year are also eligible to attend. However, any Yr 2 competitor attending must be able to competently swim the full length of a 50m pool. If Yr 2 children are unable to do this then they are asked to stay at school for the day.
Students will travel to and from the carnival by bus. We will meet at school at 9.00am and leave at 9.15am, returning before the end of the day. The cost, which includes pool entry and bus is $6.00. To facilitate organisation and supervision we would like all children to travel by bus to the pool. Parents may take their child home (after signing their child out) at the end of the day.
Children will need to take a change of clothing and food and water required for the day. There will no canteen available at the pool. Students will also be required to take their hat and sunscreen to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP and WRAP. There is limited shade at the pool.
There will not be finals so heat times will be used.
Our district swimming carnival is scheduled for Friday 17th February. If Monday’s carnival is cancelled due to further inclement weather, we will be unable to have a whole day carnival that allows us to choose next Friday’s district team.
To accommodate this situation we will have to select our district team based on the times from last year’s swimming carnival.
We realise that we may have strong swimmers who were sick or away last year, are new to our school or are 8 years old this year, who haven’t had the opportunity to register a time at last year’s carnival. Children will also have improved their times from last year. If you would like your child to be considered for our district team please write their strong events and times in the section on the permission note. Our Sports Committee will use this information to help select our district team.
It would be most appreciated if some parents could assist with judging/timekeeping at Monday’s carnival and to help house captains with their organisation. Please indicate below on the return slip if you are able to assist us. We always appreciate your support!
