GHHS PTSA Board Meeting

Call to Order at 7:10 PM by President FaraMohadjer

Minutes: Approved November 7, 2016 meeting minutes by the board.

Treasurer’s Report, Christine Agius

  • Most checks from the treasurer report are from teacher grant program
  • $3000 left to be taken advantage of for the teacher grant program, so spread the word
  • Reflectionsexpense for 2015-16 should be moved to Residual debt item

Principal’s Report:

  • Mr. Crook overseeing the Mod project for pavement, sidewalk etc, to meet with the central office, very slow process – still working on the project
  • It would be preferable if PTSA can spend the money directly affecting the classroom activities.
  • Overcrowded – so “call backs” will be occurring. Panthercreek will have slots for upto 80 students starting second semester
  • Seniors working through college applications
  • 5 new teachers joining second semester to alleviate teacher burden

Teacher Reps, Colin Richardson and Caroline Moakley

  • PLT with Cary was good, kids doing great!
  • Waiting for the winter break
  • Caroline to send out an e-mail to encourage to take advantage of teacher grant program

VP Report

  • Plan of work for Senior Welcome Back – Lights, Camera, Exit…. music, lights, etc. making give away – Jan 3rd. Under $500 expense
  • Plan of work for Senior breakfast – Feb 17th – close to last year budget ~$2,400 – trying to get lots of donations from local establishments

Freshman and Sophomore Committees

  • Want to do dance – want to know the requirement, if done, can they get help
  • Ms. Summers hesitant to start a “new” dance activity.

Membership Report

  • Membership cards are distributed
  • Some teacher members need to be added to the system
  • Next year – NCPTA would do the membership on their database. The option for NCPTA to manage online memberships is available and we will consider whether or not their system would work for us. This would still leave the membership chair / committee doing all memberships that are not sold online, which is about 2/3 of our current roll.

President Report

  • Fountains for school – fill your own water bottle – same contractor to give the quote.
  • Cary High has 2 - a two piece attachment model, for GHHS – planned for 2 – to upgrade.
  • Media room upgrade possibility with furniture upgrade – tower tables with plugs
  • Rezoning – no decision yet, e-mail the Mayor to stop it. Meeting this Thursday at 6pm at Town council.

  • Jan 18 – 1st and 3rd
  • Jan 19 – 2nd and 4th
  • Jan 20 – English 2 EOC
  • Jan 23 – Biology 1 and Math 1 EOCs
  • Jan 24 – make-ups
