2019Call for Presentations

Symposium Dates:April 15-16, 2019

Location: DoubleTree by Hilton Austin

Theme:Forging Ahead: The Challenge of Change

Deadline for Proposal Submission: Friday, October 26, 2018

The Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy’s 8th Annual Symposium is a two-day program, scheduled for April 15-16, 2019, in Austin, Texas, that will bring together hundreds of professionals from across the state to participate in high-quality and informative presentations and discussions with three goals in mind: to educate, enrich and inspire.

The theme – Forging Ahead: The Challenge of Change – will focus on ways to elevate our work enabling us to become more informed, proactive and adaptable to ensure that all youth are empowered with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed decisions about their health, families and futures.

The Texas Campaign’s Symposium seeks to provide a unique forum for bi-directional communication between issue experts and on-the-ground professionals regarding evidence-based information and research so that participants can lead change within their local communities. The Symposium seeks sessions that:

  • Provide the latest information on teen pregnancy and adolescent development that is appropriate for the diverse knowledge base and skills of participants;
  • Identify and invest in youth and young adult voices to draw in those who are directly affected by adolescent health advocacy;
  • Increase participant knowledge regarding evidence-informed interventions focused on culturally competent care for medically underserved adolescents living in Texas;
  • Share best practices for promoting adolescent and child health, youth friendly services and trauma informed care and to explore innovative programs of each;
  • Advocate for access to comprehensive health care and needed services for all youth in ways that focus on the well-being of the whole child; and
  • Raise awareness of continuing disparities in reproductive health care access and outcomes that persist in many communities within Texas.

Submissions are encouraged in all the above areas related to teen pregnancy prevention, sexuality education, youth development, and adolescent health. Priority will be given to abstracts that address the overall Symposium theme and present research-backed data to support abstract conclusions. The review committee will make the final choice of presentation format and length for accepted abstracts.

Symposium attendees include: social workers, counselors, researchers, educators, doctors, nurses and other clinicians, youth service professionals, graduate students, and other key program staff who help shape young minds
