Opportunities for Arts Education & Public Programs at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center

The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs seeks program proposals from qualified artists,artist collectives, arts groups; curators and arts instructors interested in providing provide arts services or utilizing the newly-opened Oak Cliff Cultural Center (OC3).

About the Oak Cliff Cultural Center

Located in a historic storefront in the vibrant commercial district of Jefferson Avenue in Oak Cliff, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center (OC3) opened its doors in August 2010. The facility was purchased and renovated by the City of Dallas through the 2003 Bond Program to function as a permanent City-owned arts centerwhere residents and visitors of Oak Cliff could experience a variety of arts and cultural programs. The 5,000 sq. ft. storefront features a visual arts gallery and a dance studio / rehearsal space.

The OC3 is managed by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. Starting on October 1, 2010, the center will be open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (pending budget approval).

Performing Arts Education & Public Programs

We are looking for arts education and public programs that expand the educational offerings of the OC3, in disciplines such as creative writing, acting or movement, visual and media arts, ballet or modern dance, humanities (history, literature, etc.), performances, etc.There is no restriction on the age groups to be served (youth, adults, and seniors, intergenerational).Please keep in mind that the OC3 has already developed plans for an after-school music instruction program (a Thriving Minds collaboration) and Folklórico dance instruction (through Alegre Ballet Folklórico).

Time slots available are as follows:

  • Wednesdays - 6:00 to7:15 p.m.
  • Wednesdays - 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.
  • Saturdays – 10:00 to 11:30
  • Saturdays – 4:00 to 5:30

Please note that the 15-minutes between time slots will be used to transition / set-up for the next activity.

Types of Programs: The OC3 will consider proposals for programs that include arts/cultural classes, workshops, presentations, performances, book club discussions, lectures, panels, demonstrations, etc. When reviewing proposals and allocating the available time / space, please note that priority will be given to arts/cultural programs (non-arts/cultural program submissions will be considered, but please note that we expect that the demand for the space will exceed the available time and thus it is unlikely that we will be able to accommodate non-arts/cultural programs).

Who May Propose Programs: The OC3 will consider proposals from arts groups, artists collectives, individual artists, arts instructors, arts educators, and others who demonstrate the professional background to provide a public arts/cultural program.

Press & Publicity: The OC3 will issue press release(s), and use its electronic newsletter to promote the programs. Proposers will be asked to provide information about the program, artists biographical information (resumes or bios), and promotional images no later than 60 days prior to the scheduled date of the program. The OC3 will draft and distribute all promotional materials; program organizers will be provided with copies of the promotional materials to forward to professional contacts, family or friends as appropriate.

Rental rates:For classes / workshops that charge a fee to participants, the OC3 will charge the artists / arts organization for the use of the space ($20/hr). For classes / workshops that are free to the public, the OC3 will waive the space rental fee.

How to Submit a Proposal

A complete proposal includes the following:

  • Arts Education & Public Programs Proposal Form
  • Resume / bios of proposer / artists
  • OPTIONAL: Press clippings, reviews or other printed materials of other programs presented/produced by the applicant
  • If you would like your materials returned, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope (materials without a SASE will be discarded).

Deadline for Submissions

For full consideration, submissions are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 2, 2010. Submissions should be mailed or delivered to the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, 1925 Elm Street, 4th Floor, Dallas, TX 75201. No faxed or emailed submissions will be considered.
