I. PURPOSE OF POSITION: State the basic purpose of the position in one or two specific statements.
Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager, assists the Director, Community Partnerships Coordinator and Faculty Fellows of the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC). Responsible for maintaining the CSLC website, calendar, and sending out notices of workshops and other written communications with faculty and students. Assist in updating Access databases for community agencies and faculty service learning courses. Act as student ambassador for service learning. Always ready and willing to accept any challenging task given by administrators in the Center.
II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Clearly list the major responsibilities in descending order from the most important to the least important. Indicate approximate percentage of time spent in each.

Receptionist Assistance (30%)
The position is often the primary phone contact for the CSLC thus a pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable phone demeanor is necessary. Field general questions about the CSLC. Advise patrons as to the hours of operation. Monitor scheduling or event problems while providing courteous service to “customers.” Type, copy, and fax information on behalf of the staff and director. Assist with the inventory of supplies. Distributes mail when necessary. Assists with filing. Runs errand as needed.
Update Access databases and assist with reporting (25%)
The CSLC maintains an Access database listing details of all of our community partners. This database must be updated regularly for accuracy. Student will be asked to assist in maintaining regular contact with community partners. Student will be asked to be familiar enough with the contents of the database to help make recommendations for suitable placement locations for student service learners. For CSLC service learning faculty a database must be maintained of service learning courses taught. Student will be responsible for assisting with compilation of required reports of numbers of courses and student hours committed to service learning.
Act as Student Ambassador for Service Learning (10%)
As the in-residence student at the CSLC the student assistant will act as a Student Ambassador for Service Learning. This involves promoting service learning among students, representing the CSLC at assigned student events and programs, facilitating student involvement in the CSLC.
Assist with distribution of written communications (10%)
Assists with the distribution of all flyers and other written communication for CSLC sponsored events. This includes submitting master flyer to duplicating, typing and copying the cover letter, labeling envelopes, counting and distributing the flyers.
Update CSLC Website (10%)
Add new and edited information on the Center website such as: faculty information, service learning notices and workshops, requests for proposal and awards, student and community information, and special events.
Assist with CSLC Events and Programs (10%)
Assist in the planning and execution of all center events, including preparing signage, publicity, invitations, confirmations to attendees, thank you notes and arriving early to set up the event site and staying late to clean the site. Also, preparing for events by setting out refreshments and making coffee.
Other (5%)
Other responsibilities include maintaining a presentable center by straightening the Center, Workroom and the Conference Area, putting out printed materials and acting as host to all guests. Other duties as assigned.
III. Qualifications:
Substantial technical competence: Proficiency using a PC computer, Website Programs, Word, Excel, and Access. Experience using copy machine. Experience using a multi-line phone. Experience in office routines and procedures. Ability to perform complex tasks without detailed supervision including ability to take initiative and make problem-solving decisions. Presentable, cordial, professional, and reliable. Desire to work as part of a team. Interest in promoting community service learning among students.
