Old Business:
a.Newsletter/Website/Outreach Efforts:
-President Wells noted that she would take over the newsletter from Katherine Smith so that it can be sent out soon.
-James Hampton has volunteered to be the back-up Webmaster and will contact Lisa Prosser soon to set up a training session.
-President Wells, Mr. Hampton, and PA department secretary Lori Skalabrin are working together to compile a master database of PAA members. The db will include fields for: name, address, telephone numbers, email address, paid dues, donations, and PAA induction dates.
-Much discussion ensued over offering a lifetime membership and how much that should cost. Amounts from $300 up to $2500 were discussed. However, it was decided to table the issue until the chapter sees what the response is to the new increased yearly dues of $25 per person.
- Some of the other points regarding the lifetime membership were to possibly offer a discount on the honors banquet fee and having a lifetime membership card. Dr. Baxter and Mr. Byrne offered to check with national to see if these types of cards were available.
-President Wells announced that she has changed the pictures in the PAA display case to now incorporate the 2006 honors banquet. She has promised to keep this display, which is directly across from the public administration department office SBS D311, more current.
b.Event Planning:
-The Spring Career Panel has been set for April 10, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. in Welch Hall D176, the Claudia Hampton lecture Hall. Confirmed speakers include: Ms. Kathrene Hansen, Executive Director of the Federal Executive Board and Mr. Michael Woo, Los Angeles City Planning Commissioner. Chapter members are still searching for up to 3 more speakers.
-The 2007 Honors Banquet is scheduled for April 22, 2007 from 1-4 p.m. at the Ports ‘O Call Restaurant in San Pedro. Kathrene Hansen, Executive Director of the Federal Executive Board, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker.
- Lori Skalabrin reports that all of the banquet invitations have been mailed except for those to PAA members as she is waiting on the completed membership db.
- It was decided that Ms. Skalabrin receive a certificate of thanks at the banquet for all of her hard work and dedication to PAA.
c. Name Tags:
-It was decided to go with the Express Badges company and to add the PAA lapel pin logo to the name tag along with the member’s name on the 1st line, “Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society” on the 2nd line, and the induction date on the 3rd line. Additionally, it was decided to pay the extra $2 per badge to have the magnet instead of the pin type of attachment. Ms. Prosser will contact NASPAA to have the logo graphics sent to the badge company.
- Individuals will purchase the pins rather than the chapter.
d. Scholarship:
-Mr. Byrne reported that he had received no scholarship applications for the yearly award as of March 12th. Ms. Prosser suggested that a 2nd announcement be sent out to students via their campus email addresses. Ms. Prosser will ask Lori Skalabrin to do so.
New Business/Other Business:
a. Announcements:
-Mr. Byrne announced that his Army reserve unit has been activated and that he will be shipping out to Kuwait at the end of March. The chapter is much saddened by this announcement but promises to send emails and letters to keep in touch with Mr. Byrne who will be welcomed back in about 18 months.
