4th Grade California Landmark Project for 2017
due date: Tuesday, April 4, 2017
You will choose a California Landmark (see reverse) and create a newspaper to report about it. This newspaper will include both written articles and illustrations. You will be given time in class to work on this project, however it will also require work to be done at home. The attached planners are for the first four articles and they MUST be turned in with your project. Your final project must be word processed or done in blue and/or black ink. Examples are posted in Room P2 and P4. This is a long-term project and cannot successfully be completed the night before it is due; please use the attached schedule (“How to Get it Done”) to stay on top of this project. Project MUST be at school everyday so we can work on it in class as we have time.
For a maximum grade of C (75%) your project must include the following items:
Newspaper’s name, date, publisher (your name)5 points
An article (paragraph with title) introducing the landmark 10 points
An article (paragraph with title) about the building of your landmark10 points
An article (paragraph with title) on structure and design 10 points
An illustration of the landmark with a caption 5 points
An article (paragraph with title) describing an imaginary
visit to the landmark10 points
A timeline that illustrates the history of the landmark5 points
Presentation – neatness, proper grammar, correct spelling, etc.10 points
Completed planners10 points
For a maximum grade of B (85%), your project must include all of the above plus:
An advertisement (with picture) selling an item /10 points
souvenir associated with your landmark.
For a maximum grade of A (100%), your project must include all of the above plus:
A biography and picture of an important person 10 points
associated with this landmark.
A map of California that shows where your landmark5 points
is located.

Extra Credit Construction Project:
Students will build a scale model of their landmark. This project is to be student constructed (no kits) at home with the help of an adult. It can add up to 25 points to your project’s grade.
