POST: Assistant Accountant GRADE: 5

SERVICE AREA:Finance and Corporate Services

JOB PURPOSE:To provide accountancy and administrative support with Financial Services and to support various departments within the Calico Group of companies

RESPONSIBLE TO:Senior Accountant

RESPONSIBLE FOR:None

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To assist nominated budget holders in the management of their budgets and provide monitoring information including production of management accounts within agreed timescales.
  1. To assist in the preparation and monitoring of revenue and capital budgets, liaising with nominated budget holders. Uploading approved budget to the Open accounts system.
  1. To assist in the preparation of statutory accounts.
  1. To maintain the fixed asset register, to comply with component accounting requirements, in-line with the company’s fixed asset policy.
  1. To be responsible for allocated balance sheet reconciliations within agreed timescales.
  1. To undertake the day-to-day administration of the accounting software including the maintenance and management of the coding system.
  1. To assist in completion of statutory returns as necessary.
  1. To maintain records and undertake reconciliation of Service Charges to ensure all appropriate costs are recoverable.
  1. To provide financial information for bids for new business, for review by the Senior Accountant.
  1. To attend meetings and working groups as required.
  1. To compile performance management and statistical data as appropriate and within agreed timescales.
  1. To be responsible for managing own workload and prioritisingwork to ensure deadlines are met.
  1. To be proactively involved in the work of a Corporate Group, in order to make an effective contribution to the successful achievement of the group’s aims and objectives.
  1. Any other duties laid down from time to time consistent with the grading of the post.

1. / Professional qualified accountant (CCAB) (part) or
Association of Accounting Technicians (or working towards) or equivalent. / E / A/C
2. / GCSE passes in three subjects at Grade C or equivalent, including Maths and English Language. / D / A/C
EXPERIENCE:
1. / Practical accountancy experience, in particular production of monthly management accounts. / D / A/I
2. / Minimum of two years experience of financial administration and routine accountancy working. / E / A/I
3. / Experience in using finance accounting systems. / E / A/I
4. / Experience in using Microsoft excel and Microsoft
Word. / E / A/S
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. / The ability to undertake routine accountancy work with the minimum of supervision. / E / A/I
2. / The ability to undertake more complex accountancy tasks under the instruction and supervision of senior staff. / E / A/I
3. / The ability to plan and organise work to ensure deadlines are met. / E / I
