HISTORY

The Georgia Senior Women’s Golf Association, Inc. was organized in 1964 with thirty-four

Charter Members. The first elected officers included:

Mrs. Don Jones, Treasurer

Mrs. O. B. “Mommer” Keeler was elected President Emeritus and Mary McCall was named

Our “purpose” continues today! To promote, maintain and enhance the game of golf among

CRITERIA for GSWGA

“Honorary Life Membership”

The Honorary Life Membership recognizes those members who have gone “above and

beyond” to make our Association the BEST.

The minimum requirements for selection are:

At least ten years of GSWGA membership

Six years of GSWGA tournament participation

Served on the Board of Directors as an Officer of the Association

Nominations can be made and submitted anytime during the year by the general member-

ship. The Nominating Committee will present recommendations to the Board of Directors,

who will make the final decision.

BYLAWS

ARTICLE 1: NAME

The name of the organization shall be: “GEORGIA SENIOR WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION, INC.”

ARTICLE 2: PURPOSE

The purpose of this Association shall be to promote, maintain and enhance the game of golf among senior women

in the state of Georgia. The Association will conduct an Annual tournament for the Georgia Senior Women’s Golf

Association Champion, Runner-Up, and a Super Senior Champion. The Association will also conduct a Team

Tournament and will give suitable recognition to the winners of these events. Furthermore the GSWGA Board of

Directors may hold other tournaments if deemed necessary.

ARTICLE 3: MEMBERSHIP

Returning members must renew their membership by March 1. *New Members who have reached the age of fifty (50), are legal resident of Georgia, and have a USGA index of 26.1 or less may join anytime during the calendar year. (Existing members may retain their membership if they move out of state, as long as they maintain an active GSWGA membership, including a golf handicap index, in a golf club in Georgia. *Never been a GSWGA member.

ARTICLE 4: DUES AND FEES

The annual dues of this Association shall be determined by the current Board of Directors.

ARTICLE 5: GOVERNING BOARD

The affairs and management of this Association shall be vested in the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors

shall consist of a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of fifteen (15) directors in addition to the Chairman of the

Board.

Officers of the Board shall be elected from and by the current Board. Officers will consist of a President, 1st Vice-

President, 2nd Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer. These elected officers

shall comprise the Executive Committee.

It is the intent of this Association to give wide geographical representation to the membership and to limit the

terms of Board members while at the same time allowing sufficient time to develop leadership qualities in its offi-

cers.

ARTICLE 6: TERMS OF OFFICE

Directors are elected for a three (3) year term and may be reelected for one (1) consecutive term. After completing

a second term they must retire from the Board for at least one (1) year before being nominated for the Board again.

All officers on the Executive Committee are elected for a one (1) year period. However, they may succeed them-

selves for a second term provided it is approved by the Board of Directors.

The only exception to these terms of office is the retiring President who automatically becomes the Chairman of

the Board regardless of tenure on the Board.

ARTICLE 7: MEETINGS

An open business meeting shall be held in conjunction with each tournament sponsored by this Association. The

President shall schedule an annual Director’s organizational meeting to be held in early January. The President

shall also set a date and time for a Board of Director’s meeting about eight weeks prior to the Championship Tour-

nament at the site of the upcoming tournament. She will also set the date and time for the Fall Team Tournament

Board of Director’s meeting about eight weeks prior to the Fall Team Tournament at the location of the Fall Team

Tournament. The President can also schedule on-site post-tournament Board of Director’s meetings for each tour-

nament, if needed.

The President may also schedule a called meeting of the Board of Directors whenever it is deemed necessary pro-

vided a fourteen (14) day notice is given to each Board Member.

ARTICLE 8: AMENDMENTS

These Bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the Board of Directors, provided the proposed changes

have been presented in writing to each Director fifteen (15) days prior to the meeting. Said changes must be

signed by three (3) members before being presented to the Board for consideration. It shall take a clear majority

vote to amend the By-laws.

ARTICLE 9: NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The Chairman of the Nominating Committee will be the current Chairman of the Board. The President will appoint

two (2) Directors to complete the Nominating Committee. Any nominations for election and re-election must

reach the Chairman of the Board no later than the Fall Tournament organizational meeting of the current year to be

considered as a candidate.

ARTICLE 10: ELECTIONS

Elections of Board Members will take place at the Board meeting before the Fall Team Tournament. Voting will

be by secret ballot and a clear majority vote is necessary for election to the Board.

ARTICLE 11: ATTENDANCE

Members of the Board shall attend all meetings of the Board of Directors. Failure to attend meetings and to par-

ticipate in tournaments, unless excused by the Executive Committee shall constitute an automatic resignation from

the Board of Directors.

ARTICLE 12: DRESS CODE

The official attire for all Board functions shall be a solid field of navy blue and white. The GSWGA emblem and

name tag will be displayed on the blouse or shirt. This attire will be worn at all official functions, including tour-

nament play.

ARTICLE 13: DUTIES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

It is the duty of the Board of Directors to promote the best interest of the Association and protect the interest of its

membership. Directors are expected to be at all meetings and tournaments of the Association. They shall accept

committee appointments as directed by the President. It is the responsibility of Board Members to create, main-

tain, evaluate, and revise the Policies and Procedures Manual by which they carry out the duties of their assign-

ments. Directors are requested to keep records of the methods used so they may be incorporated into future proce-

dures. The procedures are set forth as a guide and are not intended to curtail initiative.
