* AMWCY: the 7th African Meeting of WCY is beginning!!!
Some weeks before the 7th Meeting of the African Movement of Working Children and Youth which will take place from 10 to 22 July 2006 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), the time has now come for mobilization to make this event a success: State Structures, Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organizations, Youth Associations, all are actively bringing their support to the AWCY of Burkina.

* Burkina Faso: 23 WCY, including an injured person, succeed in their examination
A WCY has lost an arm and at present is admitted at hospital after the collapse of a block of flats that killed 5 persons. As a proverb says, "misfortunes never come singly". On his sick bed, the child was informed of his success at the Primary Education Final Examination, thus being among the 23 WCY who were successful. We wish him a speedy recovery, and let us congratulate and encourage all those who were successful.

* Côte d'Ivoire: environmental training/ procession for peace /workshop on listening
- On 1 May 2006, the AWCY benefited from a training program in recycling and management of domestic garbage organized by the Abel Community through VINOVO FOR AFRICA Project. This training, which brought together all the actors of the community, was under the theme "What Kind of Management for Household Garbage?"
- From 10 to 24 May 2006, AWCY/Grand Bassam and the Reading Club of BICE Library, organized a caravan which began in Azuretti village and ended in Vitré 2. The WCY introduced the AMWCY to the public, spoke about early migration and trafficking, while at the same time they distributed tracts on the subject. They also spoke about HIV/AIDS, children's rights and asked parents to register their children at birth.
- From 13 to 22 June 2006, at the initiative of the AWCY of Côte d'Ivoire, a workshop on listening was organized at the Young Aviators Centre of Bouaké for the benefit of 29 participants including 3 facilitators. During this workshop, the WCY and the animators were trained in how to listen to one another and work together to find solutions to the different problems that come up within the groups.

* Mali : WCY animate radio programs
The AWCY of Koulikoro has formed a partnership with Radio Méguétan of Koulikoro and once a week they animate a program on the theme "migration and trafficking". Thus in 2005, information and sensitization programs animated by WCY and their animators on this plague, covered 50 villages. Listening sessions are also organized in the sand and stone exploitation quarries in Souban, Massala and Koulikoro Bus Station.

* Mauritania: Worldwide march against hunger/1st General Assembly of Kaédi AWCY
- On 20 May 2006, 6 AWCY delegates from Nouakchott participated in the march against hunger organized by the World Food Program, in the presence of several officials and people of all walks of live who came to express their preoccupation regarding this plague which still continues to affect women and children.
- On 26 May 2006, Kaédi AWCY held its first General Assembly in the premises of its supporting structure, the Mauritanian Association for the Promotion of the Family. At the end of this Assembly, which assembled the members of 5 grassroots groups forming the AWCY, the office of the Association was established.

* New York: children's delegation to the United Nations against violence
Two children from Senegal and The Gambia, accompanied by Aimé Bada, an agent of Enda TM, participated in the Global Meeting of Children on "United Nations Study on Violence Against Children", from 23 to 26 May 2006 in New York. They discussed the format, the simplified version of the study and made propositions to Professor Pinheiro and Rima Salah, Assistant Executive Director of UNICEF.
* Democratic Republic of Congo: AWCY receive a technical support mission and help from partners
The AWCYs of Bukavu and Kinshasa successively received a technical support mission facilitated by Gilbert Ouédraogo and Antonin Hounga. In Bukavu as well as in Kinshasa, they met institutions such as UNICEF, Save the Children UK, National Children's Council, ESPD (Network of NGOs for children), etc. These institutions are ready to get involved in working with the AWCY, provided the latter works very hard and shows it is really capable of organizing children. Moreover, Save UK has just registered the WCYs in its activityprogram; this obviously opens the way for perspectives of collaboration.

* Rwanda: some WCYs benefit from a training program
From 22 au 26 May 2006, 13 WCYs, a representative per grassroots group and 4 members from AWCY/Kigali participated in the training session on the theme "Communication and Improvement in Labor Relations". Organized by Caritas, a supporting structure of the AWCY, this training focused on, among other things, the dynamics of the group, communication, organizational development, leadership, etc. It will help the WCYs to improve their organizational system. Testimonials were given to the participants by Father Théogène IYAKAREMYE, Assistant Director of Kigali Caritas.
* Senegal: workshop on strengthening the capacities of elders/a grassroots group in Nioro/sensitization in a village/workshop on training in dancing
From 06 to 10 June 2006, a workshop on the strengthening of the capacities of elders of the Movement was held in Kaolack. This workshop gathered 50 participants from AWCYs from Senegal and The Gambia, as well as facilitators. They discovered the attitudes and role of the elders, methods to follow for the success of activities such as communication, mobilization and organization.
Besides, after the training of the elders of WCYs of Senegal on the growth of associations, AWCY/Kaolack through their two elders, benefited from a training program on 2 March 2006 in Nioro. This was during a meeting that brought together the NGO Symbiose, Citizen Youth Action Association and the AWCY. A first group of tailor apprentices was identified by means of RAP.
Moreover in Thiès, in the village of Kissane, the WCYs organized a forum on the right to stay in the village with the support of DEVSOL, their partner.
In Ziguinchor, the AWCY benefits from a workshop on training in dancing which is held twice weekly, and that brings together about twenty apprentices. Two sessions have already taken place.

* Senegal-Gambia: workshop on restitution and planning on violence against children
From 19 to 22 April 2006, a restitution and planning workshop on violence against children was held in Dakar (Senegal), with the help of Save the Children Sweden, with technical support provided by EDEN and ENDA TM. This workshop gathered children of EDEN Clubs, delegates from AMWCY and CONAFE who had come from the eleven (11) regions of Senegal. Children from The Gambia were represented by the delegates of the Associations, Voice of the Young and Child Protection. The children restituted the results of their researches on "violence against children" and elaborated an excellent national activity plan.

* Special Festival of the African Children's Day
Like children's organizations and children of NGOs, some member countries of AMWCY celebrated the 2006 African Children's Day under the theme: "The Right to be Protected, Halt to Violence Against Children!".
- Burkina Faso
In collaboration withStichting Kinderpostzegels Nederland (SKN Holland), the AWCY organized several activities (showing films of sensitization, drama shows, ballets, etc.) at the headquarters of the association. It also participated in the national ceremony in Gourcy in the presence of the Ministers of Social Action and Territorial Administration, under the sponsorship of Mme Chantale Compaoré, the First Lady. The following day, the AWCY organized a charity fair.

- Côte d'Ivoire
AWCY/C-I celebrated the day at the AESEMO Center in Bouaké in the presence of the delegates of all the towns constituting the national coordination, some representatives from international NGOs (PAM, Save the Children Sweden) and local sister organizations. Poems, speeches and sketches were organized throughout the day which ended with a cocktail party.

- Mali
The WCY marched from the offices of Enda Mopti to the Regional Government Office where they handed over a list of grievances to the Governor of the town. 8 rap groups animated a concert in the presence of the Mayor of the town and other personalities. The rappers based their themes on the situation of young housemaids, early migration and child trafficking as well as children living in difficult situations.

- Mauritania
The WCY from Mauritania were invited to take part in the event by the Secretariat of the Condition Féminine which also invited them to its cultural show held on 20 June.

- Senegal-Gambia
The WCY from Bara village (The Gambia), Fatick and Kaolack (Senegal) commemorated the day in Fatick. They draw attention to the 12 rights, showed their mobilization capacity, made themselves better known and asked for the legal recognition of their associations.
