CAFAA Meeting Minutes

Annual Meeting of the Chesapeake Antique Fire Apparatus Association

Date:December 9, 2007

Time:5:30 p.m.

Location:Fire Museum of Maryland, Lutherville, MD

The meeting was called to order by President Frank Tremel.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer Betty Radish. The motion to approve was made by Bob Alexander and seconded by Steve Heaver and the report was approved.

Minutes from the November 11, 2007 meeting were read by Secretary Bernie Punte. The motion to approve the minutes was made by Bill Radish and seconded by Dot Fox and the minutes were approved.

Committee Reports

Nominating Committee – Bill Fitzgerald will run for Director and all incumbents are running

Old Business

Congressional Cauacus Muster – No corporate sponsor has been found and the event may be downsized.

New Business

The slate of candidates is:

President – Frank Tremel

Vice President – tim Jones

Secretary – Bernie Punte

Treasurer – Betty Radish

Director – Bill Fitzgerald

The motion to elect the slate was made by Bill Radish and seconded by Dick Fox and the candidates were elected.

Annual Insurance – it was approved to pay up to $200.00 for the annual insurance.

Good of the Association

Bill Radish made a motion to donate $100.00 to the Fire Museum of Maryland. Dick fox seconded the motion and it was approved.

Schilling Award – Sandy Fitzgerald

Malden Miller gave an account of the national summer meeting in Burnsville, Minnesota. Pumping on Friday was from a hydrant and pumping on Saturday was from a tank. The parade was promoted as largest by Guiness. Malden noted that the city is not a member of SPAAMFAA. Malden noted a rig with pump pressure over 200 PSI. the operator stated that the rules did not apply to him.

Frank Tremel noted that a chapter must sponsor the meeting, not the city. The chapter must assign a safety officer to check for safety violations such as pump pressure. The chapters bid for the convention and sponsor the events, which are subject to SPAAMFAA rules. Frank noted that the national meeting Syracuse will be regulated.

Future Meetings

January - Lambert’s Restaurant in Lanham, Md. January 12, 2008. The optional dinner is at 5:00 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The limited menu selection for groups is $16,00 per person. The restaurant is not open on Sunday. Their website is “hotcrabs.com”.

February – Open ( possible Hereford – contact Chuck Bollinger)

March – Damascus2:30 p.m. following the flea market

April – Annual auction – Annapolis (Charlie Cadle to arrange)

Vic McEntee – requested pictures for Rig of the Month on the chapter website.

It was announced that Kathy Schwiegman’s mother passed away last night.

Steve Heaver discussed events and changes at the Fire Museum of Maryland. Capital improvements are to be made in the electrical system and air conditioning will be installed. The museum will install the 1871 cast iron front of Engine 8 fire house on Mulberry Street in Baltimore in the horse drawn area of the museum. Along with the cast iron front a tin ceiling, brick floor and harness setup will be installed. 2008 events at the museum are:

June 14 (second Saturday in June) Hand Drawn apparatus. A bull roast will be held and a hot dog vendor will be present.

September 13, 2008 (second Saturday in September) motorized apparatus. There may be a chili cook off at the September event.

Other events

Sunday January 14, 200810:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.HarrisburgMuseum. Steve Heaver will give a lecture on horse drawn apparatus.

Syracuse national meeting – anticipated 150 rigs

Raffle was won by Jim Williams, and donated back to the club - $17.50 for each
