A Typical Routine at Caerleon

Pre-school

7:45-9:00 / Welcome and breakfast for the children arriving early
Children will be split into Key Person groups
Supported free flow play opportunities will be offered where children may choose from a variety of toys; this helps to encourage personal and social, physical and intellectual development
9:00-10:00 / Supervised access in key groups to Jump to encourage physical development. Different activities each day including parachute games, throwing, catching skills, football, balancing and jumping, music and dance
10:00-11:30 / Follow weekly planning sheets and identify individual learning opportunities
The children are gathered together and staff will engage the children in group discussions about the day. Children will begin their interest related activities and everyone is encouraged to participate
Morning snack - children will be encouraged with adult support to help themselves to fruit, milk and filtered water at snack time
Children work in small groups with support from their Key Person and remaining children have a choice of free play activities such as construction, mark making, role play, painting and supervised access to the outdoor garden
Tidy up
11:30-12:30 / During our lunch time period the children enjoy a healthy range of foods, which they are encouraged to serve for themselves. They will also have the opportunity to learn social skills from each other and from staff who sit with them
12:30-1:00 / Quiet time is available for children who wish to rest
1:00-3:15 / The children are gathered together and will begin their interest related activities and everyone is encouraged to participate
Afternoon snack - children will be encouraged to help themselves to fruit and filtered water at the snack bar
Children work in small groups with an adult and remaining children have a choice of free play activities such as construction, mark making, role play painting and access to the outdoor garden
Tidy up
3:15-3:45 / The children are brought together and enjoy a range of activities such as stories, songs and group discussion reflecting upon the afternoon's activities.
3.45-4.15 / Tea Time- small groups again as at lunch time.
During this time the children are able to access their tea where they are encouraged to serve themselves with the support of an adult
Quiet time, stories, puzzles, self-chosen activities and access to the outside garden
6:00 / Home time. Children are collected by parents and say goodbye for the day, collecting items to take home

Please note that the above is an example. Routines remain very flexible to accommodate children’s varying individual needs.Periods of rest and feed times always reflect the needs of the individual child and wishes of their parents.
