JOINING INSTRUCTIONS FOR CAPEL CURIG BASED COURSES

YOU ARE TO READ AND ACTION THESE JI’s IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIPT!

GENERAL

  1. Your application for CCAT course noC3 Multi Activity, 25-30 May 14,at Capel Curig has been successful. These Joining Instructions act as a receipt for your course fee.
  1. This instruction provides you with the essential information to ensure you arrive at CCAT fully prepared for the course.

NOMINAL ROLL

3.A course nominal roll is at Enclosure 1.

COURSE CONFIRMATION, CONSENT AND MEDICAL DECLARATION PROFORMA

4.Having received these JIs you are nowrequired to return the course confirmation, consent and medical declaration form, Enclosure 2by COP 21 May 14. Failure to return Enclosure 2will result in your vacancy being offered to another applicant from the reserves list and your course fee being forfeited.

  1. If you be unable to attend the course you are to inform HQ CCAT immediately by telephone or email. Aletter will be sent to the County CEO/Contingent Commander for personnel who do not report for the course orwho arrive late with no justifiable explanation.

FIT TO ATTEND

  1. You are to ensure you are medically fit to attend the course, as the demands of the training programme require you to be both physically and mentally robust. Do not attend the course if you are injured or have recently suffered an illness that will inhibit or restrict your full participation in the training programme.

REPORTING

7.

  1. This is a 5-day course.
  1. The course will assemble onSun 25May 14, you are to arrive by 1700hrs. On arrival all students are to report to the MGS guard at the entrance to the camp who will in turn direct you to the CCAT Centre Manager. The arrival briefing will commence at1900hrs,Sun25May 14.

8.If your travel plans are unexpectedly disrupted and you are likely to miss the arrival briefing time you are to contact the CCAT Centre Manager as soon as possible.

9.The course de-brief is programmed for 1430hrs onFri30May 14. There will be no departure prior to thede-brief. Transport will be available on request for the local train station.

TRAVEL

10.Units are responsible for the travel arrangements of coursepersonnel. This Instruction may be quoted as an authority for travel expenses. Students are to contact their Unit HQ as soon as possible to arrange travel. Travel directions are at Annex B. Personnel travelling by car are encouraged to contact other personnel from their region, indicated on the nominal roll at Enclosure 1, to arrange sharing transport.

11.Personnel are to ensure they book their train times so that it closely matches the pick-up time indicated in the travel directions annex. There will be no other pick-up times arranged except for individuals who are delayed due to unexpected disruption to their train travel.

12.The travel time between the camp and the train station is indicated in the travel directions annex and is to be taken into consideration when booking return travel. No return travel is to be booked prior to 1515hrs.

EQUIPMENT

13.You will be provided with the necessary technical equipment for your course. You are required to provide some of your own clothing and equipment, in particulara robust pair of mountaineering boots, from the list provided at Annex A. Your equipment will be checked for suitability by your instructor. No items of military clothing or equipment are to be brought on courses with the exception of your issued boots.

SECURITY AND FIRE

14.Cars are to be parked on the student car park as directed by the MGS.

15.Hire cars are to be parked and secured as directed by the MGS.

16. A Security and Fire brief will be included in the Centre Manager’s arrival briefing.

17. You are to acquaint yourself with the camp Fire Orders and the fire assembly point.

ACCOMMODATION AND MESSING

18.Accommodation and messing will be provided and will be centralised for all personnel. Personal bedding/sleeping bag, including a pillow, will be required.Ablutions are also centralised for all personnel. Personnel should bring a sleeping bag if their course involves an overnight expedition. Students are encouraged to bring a small padlock for the lockers in the accommodation.

19. Vegetarian and other special dietary requirements are to be annotated on the confirmation form. The first meal will be evening meal(1800hrs) Sun25May 14

DAILY ROUTINE

20.The daily routine at CCAT is as follows:

0730 Breakfast, collect packed lunch and fill flask

0830Student briefing – weather, safety, equipment and risk management brief
1715 Return from training
1800 Evening meal
1900 Evening lectures

COURSE RESULTS

21.On successful completion of your course, you will be presented with a CCAT course certificate.

SUMMARY

22.Further information and enquiries regarding the administration of the course are to be directed in the first instance to theHQ CCAT office, Capel Curig Training Camp.

Travel Instructions

By road:

  1. Travel west through North Wales on either the A55 coast road (recommended-fast dual carriageway, beware speed cameras) or A5 slow, single carriageway but more scenic through Snowdonia. Capel Curig Training Camp is situated on the main A5 between Betws-Y-Coed and Capel Curig village.

Arrivals by train:

  1. Candidates should ensure they arrive in good time to get the connecting train from Llandudno junction to Bleanau Ffestiniog arriving at Betws-y-Coed at1643hrs. A pick up will be arranged to meet this train.

Departures by train:

  1. Homeward bound train journeys should not be booked any earlier than 1515hrs on Friday, a drop off will be arranged to meet this time.All return journeys should be booked from Betws-y-Coed.
