Frankenstein: A “Frankenfolio”
To complete the Frankenfolio you must choose the specified number of activities from each category and assemble them all together into one presentation. The presentation format will be graded along with the content; we will discuss different formats as the due date grows nearer.
DUE: Tuesday, 2/25 in class. Hard copy only.
C-Level: You must chose three (3) of these assignments.
- Modernize the exchange of letters between Victor and Elizabeth (ch. 6) by converting it to an instant message/text conversation.
- Create a one-page diary entry from Victor’s point of view immediately following the Creature’s “birth”. Victor’s reactions should be consistent with those we see him experiencing at that moment in the novel.
- Create ten vocabulary flash cards using unfamiliar words from the text. Include for each an original sentence that incorporates that word.
- Condense the series of letters in the beginning of the book into a series of short telephone messages or text messages thatRobert leaves for his sister, Margaret.
- Choose a song that corresponds the mood of one part of the novel and explain why or how the song fits the mood.
- Choose a piece of art or music from the Romantic Period. Show or play an excerpt of the piece and explain how it exemplifies thecharacteristics of the Romantic Period.
- Create a do-it-yourself manual on how to create your own creature, based specifically on descriptions of Victor’s creation
B-Level: You must choose two (2) of these assignments.
- Write a letter to one character from the book in which you explain why you either agree or disagree with specific actions he/she has taken, what you think he/she should do next and why.
- Choose an event in the book that makes you feel any kind of strong emotion and write a poem about it (no need to rhyme!)
- Choose a song that you feel defines one of the characters in the novel. Provide the lyrics and explain (using specific references from the book) how this song defines the character you have chosen.
- Create a page from Victor Frankenstein’s lab journal surrounding his creation of the Creature.You may include doodles, random thoughts, etc – make it look authentic. You must hand in an analysis of your work with at least three direct references from the text.
A-Level: You must choose one (1) of these assignments.
- Write a 5-paragraph essay on one of the following topics/themes we have discussed in Frankenstein:
- Elements of Gothic or Romantic style
- Conflict between good/evil
- Taking science/technology too far
- Culpability of Frankenstein for the consequences of his actions
- Find a newspaper, magazine article, news clip, etc. on a current bioethical issue. Write a personal response from the Creature’s perspective. Include direct references from the text (proof that indicates why the Creature would think a certain way)to support your paper. 5 paragraphs.
