These new programmes have been designed in partnership with the Institute of Leadership and Management to provide understanding, development and a formal qualification for those wishing to improve supervisory skills or preparing to move into a supervisory role. The Certificate level provides access to CSCS Gold Supervisors card and all attract the new higher level technical grant level

Course Programme

The ILM Level 3 qualifications in Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector aim to bridge the gap for those moving into the supervisory and management roles from craft or technical backgrounds. The qualification does this by developing basic leadership and management skills and aims to:

·  Provide the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and correct everyday issues on site

·  Build the confidence to apply management skills and knowledge and communicate effectively with all on site

·  Enhance personal development through acquisition of transferable knowledge and skills

·  Provide the construction industry with a network of managers who will meet the challenges of the future

Delegates will complete modules from the list below (Certificate 1-4, Award 1-2, Upgrade 3-4)

Module 1 - Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector - Roles and responsibilities of a site supervisor or team leader / Leadership and management / Quality management / Health and safety

Module 2 - Delivery of Site Operations and Logistics - Planning work on site / Putting team members to work

Module 3 - Achieving Performance through People - Establishing an effective team / Improving the performance of a team

Module 4 – Reading and Executing a Short-Term Programme - Site planning and programme requirements / Managing resources, time and materials

The course includes a total of six days of classroom delivery and a full day assessment workshop. The assessment is by a series of short answer questions. One to one and group tutorial time is built into the programme. Delegates will need to use a computer to complete assignments.

Candidates will gain qualifications/certification in:

·  ILM Level 3 Certificate/Award in Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector

·  With sufficient experience and recent H&S test, Certificate candidates will be able to apply for CSCS Gold card

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will:

·  normally be either practising first line managers or are about to be promoted to this role with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands, and

·  have Level 2 Key Skills in Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent

In addition it is highly recommended that participants should already possess or be working towards holding one or more of the following pre-requisites in order to meet the industry standard requirements to be able to work onsite:

·  Construction Skills Health and Safety Test Card

·  CSCS Blue Card

·  Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

·  PQP Yellow and White Card,

·  Triple Bar for New Build Sites

·  CCNSG Safety Passport Tunnel Safety Card

·  Construction Plant Competence Scheme Card

Next steps

Further units will enable candidates to achieve the nuclear or tunnelling specific units or progress to the CILM Diploma.
