This year you will be studying the following topics (not necessarily in this order).

2.  Genetics (LW)
3.  Chemical Reactions (CW)
4.  Global systems, Global issues (ES)
5.  Senior subject task (Mini Topic)
6.  Power to the people (PW)
7.  Materials (CW)
8.  Evolution (LW)
9.  Revision for yearly examination (ALL STRANDS)
Most of the information and resources for these topics will be found on the BBHS MOODLE. It is accessible at any point using normal departmental login credentials.
IMPORTANT
Ø  Workbooks, technology, pen, pencil and ruler must be brought to class each lesson and classwork recorded neatly and accurately. Calculators will also be required.
Ø  All diagrams should be drawn in pencil with a ruler
Ø  Classwork must be kept complete and up to date.
Ø  Work missed because of absence must be completed immediately on your return to school.
Ø  Homework and other assignments must be completed when due and submitted for marking by the due date (otherwise late penalties will be imposed).
Ø  Topics are approximately 4 weeks in duration.

Byron Bay High School reports student performance in Science by awarding the grades A to E and a rank in class that is based on performance in the tasks outlined below.

EXPLANATORY NOTES.

Ø  Task 1: Homework Book to be completed and checked for completion.
Ø  Task 2: Student Research Project – Individual Scientific Investigation – Own choice of Topic.
Ø  Task 3: Practical Task - A practical task involving an investigation related to a topic studied in semester 1.

EXPLANATORY NOTES.

Ø  Task 4: Homework Book to be completed and checked for completion.
Ø  Task 5: Senior subject prac task – a cohort wide investigation and scientific process related to a senior subject of choice.
Ø  Task 6: The formal Yearly Examination will be approximately 2 hours in length and may include all topics studied in Years 9 & 10.

ABSENCES: If you are absent when a task is set you must still make every effort to complete it. Arrangements will be made in the case of a lengthy absence due to illness OR approved leave.

LATE SUBMISSION OF TASKS: Students will be given plenty of time to complete the task. A deduction penalty of 10% on the due day will apply for late submission. Two days late 20% and Three days late 40%. After 4 days, a Zero mark will be awarded . All tasks must be completed to satisfy Course requirements. Failure to submit a task is recorded and may result in an N Warning and ultimately a N-Award. This grade will be reported on the Record of School Achievement (ROSA).
