NO. R-275. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the MontpelierHigh School Solons 2007 championship girls’ soccer team.
(S.C.R.31)
By Senators Doyle, Cummings and Scott,
By Representatives Anderson of Montpelier and Kitzmiller of Montpelier
Whereas, Montpelier High School’s girls’ soccer team has earned a reputation for sharp play, having appeared four times in the Division II championship during the past seven years, and
Whereas, while these performances were commendable, the Solons had not emerged victorious at the final whistle, and
Whereas, once again in 2007, the girls from the state’s capital city played a great season of soccer, and they were seeded second for post-season tournament competition, and
Whereas, their skillful on-field maneuvers during the playoffs provided the Solons their entry ticket to the championship game against the formidable No. 1 seeded Woodstock Union High School Wasps, and
Whereas, in the decisive Division II championship contest on November 3 at Fair Haven, the Solons wrote a bright new chapter in the history of Vermont high school girl’s soccer competition, and
Whereas, the first half of play featured one nearly successful scoring attempt on each team’s part, but it was primarily a test of the Solons’ and Wasps’ defensive capabilities, and
Whereas, at 3:13 into the second half, Solon Jill Dellipriscoli sent a direct kick from immediately outside the penalty area into the net for the game’s opening goal, and five minutes later, she repeated this feat to increase Montpelier’s lead to its final 2-0 victory margin, and
Whereas, despite one serious Woodstock scoring threat between the two Montpelier goals, Jill Dellipriscoli’s sister, Caroline Dellipriscoli, a freshman, defended the net successfully all afternoon, and
Whereas, the 2007 Solons’ roster, consisting of Caroline Dellipriscoli, Kaitlin Cloutier, Kaitlin Waring, Catie Banfield, Lilah Watt, Tatum FitzGerald, Ariana McSweeney, Morgan Segale, Amanda Pelkey, Julia Francis, Joslin Parker, Jill Dellipriscoli, Alison Chase, Jenn Ruta, Kaeli Dunn, Zeljana Varga, Brooke Bova, Alyssa Turley, Anna Schwarz, Erin Banfield, Caitlin Paterson and Lucia Bragg, is one of truly outstanding players, and
Whereas, head coach Eric Bagley and assistant coach Dan Roy demonstrated great leadership skills, and everyone appreciated the great support of team manager Jaden Dickinson, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Montpelier High School Solons 2007 championship girls’ soccer team, and be it further
