2000: A Senior Odyssey

By Lauren Eavers, Justin Hunsinger, and Kirsten Valle

On November 17, students, friends, and family gathered for a night of fashion and fun at the annual Senior Fashion Show. Held at the Richlin Ballroom, the show featured nearly one-third of the Class of 2001, modeling for 14 local stores.

Twenty parents organized the event, serving as chairpersons, decorators, and store coordinators. Countless other parents donated door prizes to be raffled off to audience members throughout the evening.

Ticket-holders, arriving before the show began were greeted with appetizers and a delightful performance by FHS’s Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Craig Harvey. A delicious three-course dinner was served at 7 p.m., and before long, the show was under way.

Leading off the styling pack was a group of students modeling Cougar Wear, Fallston’s own fashion line. Masters of Ceremony Tom Myers and Erin Pyles announced the seniors as they strutted down the catwalk to songs like “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Independent Woman.” The rest of the show was highlighted with sizzling styles from teen hotspots like Rue 21, Contempo Casuals, and Wilson’s Leather.

”The Fashion Show was a little nerve-racking, but it was a lot of fun,” said senior Jessica Gebhart, who modeled for White House Black Market. “I loved wearing my sparkly outfit and strutting down the runway!”

Around 9 p.m., the DJ began to slow the music and the formal wear models took the stage. The beautiful gowns and sharp tuxedoes from stores like La Bella and B. Fine truly enhanced the festive mood of the night. “It was a really great show to watch,” said senior John Yu, who didn’t model, but supported the Senior Class with his attendance. “It was a lot of fun.”

After all of the models had enjoyed their time in the spotlight, all 130 senior participants piled onto the catwalk for the finale. While singing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly,” they waved streamers and smiled for photos.

Senior Amanda Melefsky summed up the experience: “The Fashion Show really brought the seniors together. It was a memorable night that is sure to be remembered by everyone for a long, long time!”
