Performance

New Music Classes Slated

For Students of All Ages

The American Performance Studios have added classes to the fall and winter schedule, hoping to fill a need for more specific training in the arts for students of all ages, according to instructor Jeanette Maraffi.

Mrs. Maraffi will be teaching a course in Ear-Training for singers and instrumentalists who wish to increase their music, hearing and sight-reading skills.

Mrs. Maraffi approaches the training of the ear to hear music intervals and rhythms in a format which includes singing solfeggio, stationery “Do,” and tone forming exercises.

Molly Barber and Debbie Shapiro will teach Pre-School Story Time Theater to children ages 3 to 6. Students will sing, learn a story and act it out under the tutelage of Mrs. Barber, formerly of “Miss Molly and Friends” on the children’s television show “Romper Room,” and Mrs. Shapiro, an early childhood music specialist.

Story Time Theater will work with children to encourage their interest and development in music, as well as having fun creating and acting out stories, according to Mrs. Maraffi.

Classes in Performance, Scene Study, Public Speaking, Audition Preparation and Choral Singing also are offered. The Fall/Winter Choral Singing class includes a Holiday Caroling party.

Individual lessons in piano, voice and monologue preparation also are offered. The American Performance Studio is a not-for-profit educational activity. Please call (908) 233-7214 for further information.
