Course Description
This semester course is designed to provide instruction in introductory keyboarding, introductory word processing, introductory electronic presentation, introductory computer hardware, introductory Internet, and soft skills for business applications. These competencies provide the skills necessary to ensure increased productivity and efficient utilization of business skills.
Intended Outcomes
- Operate a personal computer using Microsoft Windows.
- Develop and apply keyboarding skills using correct habits while keying of letters,office correspondence, and reports.
- Develop and apply word processing skills utilizing Microsoft Word.
- Develop and apply electronic presentation skills using Microsoft Power Point.
- Identify and understand computer hardware.
- Perform activities using the worldwide web.
- Develop and utilize business-related soft skills.
Grading Policy
The Lake County grading scale is as follows:
A: 100-90
B: 89-80
C: 79-70
D: 69-60
F: 59-0
A minimum of nine (9) grades will be recorded each nine weeks grading period.
Grades will be equally weighted unless otherwise stated. All grades will be equated to numerical grades.
Absences
Students are responsible for all make-up work after an absence. Work must be made up within five (5) school days. If this is impossible, special arrangements must be made with the teacher. If an absence is only on the day of an assigned test, the test must be taken the day the students returns.
After an absence, the student is to check the white “Assignment Board” for the days missed. The Assignment Board is located under the clock. It is the student’s responsibility to get copies of all notes during the absence. *(Keyboarding work may be done at home with teacher approval.)

Rules & Consequences
- All keyboarding students and parents must sign and return to their homeroom teacher the LCS Student Acceptable Telecommunications Use Policy and Agreement (in the Student Code of Conduct)
- Students should be seated and prepared to work when the bell rings.
- Students need to come to class prepared to learn and be productive. This includes brining all necessary materials. (folder, pens, pencils and paper)
- Students must be polite and considerate to the teacher and fellow students
- There will be NO personal grooming in class. Combs, brushes, make-up, lipstick, etc. will be confiscated until the last day of the semester.
- There will be NO eating or drinking in the classroom. Breaking any of these rules will result in a detention.
- There will be NO cell phones or ipods out in the classroom. If I see them I will take them.
- Students are not to deface or vandalize any equipment, materials, or furniture. Use the equipment with care. Always follow the teacher’s instructions. An immediate referral will be written for any student who vandalizes or defacescomputer equipment.
- Students are not to go into any other person’s file or use another person’s password for any reason. Students who fail to comply with this rule will receive a failing grade for that assignment.
- The area around each student’s desk is his/her responsibility. Students are to make sure the area is left clean at the end of each class period.
- Infractions of the rules or misuse of the Internet will result in the loss of computer privileges.
Parents please sign indicating that you have read this syllabus. Your child will receive a grade for accepting the responsibility of delivering this paper to you, reading the syllabus, and retuning it to the teacher the next day. All students must also have parental permission to use the EMS computers and Internet by signing the Student Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement and returning the permission to their teacher.
