Ph.D. Chemistry, The University of Texas at Austin, May 2011
Areas of Expertise
- Materials characterization and data analysis.
- XPS, UPS, Raman microscopy, SEM/STEM, EDS, TGA, UV-Vis, AA spectroscopy, chromatography (GC, IC, HPLC), CVD, and electrochemical techniques.
Professional Work Experience
A. Present Position: Postdoctoral Fellow, Bureau of Economic Geology, The University of Texas at Austin (August 15 2011 - Present).
B. Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The University of Texas at Austin (November 2006 - May 2011).
Independently managed long-term project in understanding the intrinsic properties of a novel material (nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes, N-CNTs) that resulted in several first-author publications in peer reviewed journals. Developed new method for efficient and effective use of N-CNTs for complex electrochemical measurements. Studied the physical, electronic, and catalytic properties of N-CNTs for energy storage/conversion and remediation applications, specifically focusing on the oxygen reduction reaction. Supervised independent undergraduate research projects, and mentored undergraduate students. Managed Raman Microscope user facility, including training, supervising, and assisting undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral users with diverse backgrounds to analyze various complex samples.
C. Teaching Assistant, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The University of Texas at Austin (August 2006 - May 2011).
Taught undergraduate analytical laboratory course for non-chemistry and chemistry majors, including supervising and evaluating independent research projects and grading written reports: CH 455 & CH 376 Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (Spring 2007, Summer 2007, Spring 2011); CH 204 Freshman Research Initiative Nano Stream (Spring 2008); CH 153 Physical Chemistry Laboratory (Fall 2006). Assisted with graduate analytical lecture course (CH 381 Advanced Analytical Chemistry); lecturing as needed, grading exams and homework assignments and tutoring students. (Fall 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010).
D. Project Assistant, CDR Associates, Boulder, Colorado (October 2004 - July 2006).
Cataloged and maintained correspondence between public, private, and government interests for large environmental and public policy related projects. Created brochures, presentations, and graphics for public distribution. Assisted with final report documents for funding proposals, trainings, books, and impact statements.
