The HSE has requested us to make parents aware of the danger of contracting measles. They state that two doses of the MMR vaccine is the only means of providing protection against measles and ask that parents should ensure that their children have the necessary vaccination.

Fees

Fee balance if any should be paid by return of post or to your school otherwise place may be forfeited.

Pocket Money

The amount of pocket money you give to your child is at your own discretion but at good rule of thumb would be roughly £2 per day. The children will be taken on a tour and they may wish to shop while on it. All pocket money should be in euro. In addition a Rannafast Hoodie is also on sale for €35 and we find that many students wish to purchase it. Also students may go kayaking as an extra which costs €10. You may wish to include for these additional optional costs when budgeting.

Clothing

The “Bean an Tí” will wash light clothes each week but children would need to have enough jeans, jumpers etc. to last the course. A light summer raincoat can be useful.

Contact with Home

Children are allowed to have mobile phones at their lodging house for the purpose of contacting home only. They will be allowed to use them at the following times, 8.30-9.00 a.m 6.30 – 7.30 pm and 10.30-11.00 pm. At all other times phones will be kept in the lodging house by the bean an tí. Please attach a label with your child’s name on it to the back of their phone. The taking of photographs using picture phones in student bedrooms is prohibited.

Homesickness

It is only natural that some children may experience slight loneliness for the first day or two, this usually passes as they become involved in the course. In very exceptional cases some children may develop homesickness. The college authorities are experienced in dealing with such cases. In the unlikely event of this happening your child they would be given every assistance and of course you would also be contacted.

Behaviour

Parents are asked to remind students of the rules for good behaviour as outlined in the college brochure. The college code of behaviour has also been sent to you as an attachment with this email. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
