Purpose of the Role:
- To lead and manage B3SDAon a day to day basis
- To undertake work in capacity building, promoting best practice and in facilitating and promoting the role of third sector organisations as outlined below and specified from time to time B3SDA’s Operational Plan
- To work with B3SDA’s board of trustees in making strategic and operational plans, setting priorities and in monitoring progress against objectives
Duties and Responsibilities
B3SDAMission and Values
To have regard in all aspects of the role at both a strategic and operational level to B3SDAs mission and values.
B3SDA Board
To work in conjunction with B3SDA’s board of trustees in planning at a strategic level in setting and prioritizing strategic objectives
To undertake the formulation of operational plans for the achievement of strategic objectives, agreeing monitoring outputs with B3SDA’s board of trustees
To provide regular reports and information to the B3SDA board through regular board meetings, subcommittees and email updates to support the board in both planning and strategic decision making as well as in evaluating work undertaken and performance achieved further to operational plans.
Organisational Management of B3SDA
To provide overall day to-day management of B3SDA including: its services and operations; budget and finances; legal and charitable regulatory requirements, premises and staff team
To lead and manage B3SDA’s staff team along with unpaid volunteers, contractors or consultants working for B3SDA
Third Sector Communication, Representation and Engagement
To manage and maintain an effective communication process within the third sector, and between the third sector, the public and partners.
To facilitate representation of the third sector at all levels on relevant strategic partnerships.
To liaise with public and private sector agencies, including officers and members of statutory and local partnerships and those responsible for commissioning.
To coordinate and support engagement between Third Sector and Public Sector at neighbourhood level
To coordinate a Third Sector response to developing policies and new service initiatives, etc.
Third Sector Partnership Work
To work with sub regional and national partners to improve practice, joint working and maintain an up to date awareness of relevant policy
Communications
To be ultimately responsible for the content of all newsletters, mailings, website content, e-mails and all other communications by or for B3SDA.
Administration
To, when necessary, assist in administrative tasks such as answering enquiries via telephone, email and in person.
To complete administrative tasks relevant to this role including (but not limited to) record keeping, monitoring of activities, preparing letters and other documents etc
To keep appropriate records and required reports necessary to satisfy the requirements of B3SDA and its funders
More General Requirements
To attend B3SDA staff, Board and any other meetings when necessary.
To undertake relevant and appropriate training development
To work in accordance with the B3SDA’s policies and procedures
To undertake such duties as may be identified by the Board of B3SDA which are generally compatible with the functions of the post.

Person Specification
Essential
- Ability to communicate persuasively B3SDA’s mission and values along with the importance of B3SDA’s commitment to equality of opportunity.
- Understanding of the importance of good governance to both B3SDA itself and in the wider context of the Third Sector as a whole
- Understanding of the role of Third Sector Infrastructure organisations during a period of change in the wider Third Sector
- Experience of strategic planning and / or preparation of a business plan
- Ability to translate strategic aims, objectives and priorities into working operational plans
- Experience of compliance with monitoring and evaluation requirements
- Understanding and experience of the legal and regulatory requirements involved in running a charity and limited company
- Experience of staff management and supervision
- Experience of project management and implementation
- Experience of managing an organisational budget
- Ability to influence or persuade others in authority or positions of influence
- Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
- Good interpersonal skills including diplomacy and the ability to community clearly and successfully in writing and orally with individuals and organisations of all backgrounds and status.
- Good ICT skills including word processing, email and spreadsheets
- Able to work with minimum of supervision, often away from the office base

- Experience and good track record of working within or alongside voluntary and community organisations.
- Experience and good track record of working within or alongside public sector organisations, in particular local government.
- Experience of working within or alongside voluntary and community local infrastructure organisations
- Experience as a Chief Officer of a Third Sector Infrastructure organisation
- Experience as a board member on a board of a charitable trustees
- Experience of playing a significant part in leading an organisation through achievement of externally defined performance or quality frameworks.
- Experience of maintaining financial recording systems for multiple income streams
- Experience of developing a strategic and/or business plan in a complex multi-agency and / or partnership environment.
- Experience of managing work undertaken by other organisations or consultants.
