In 2014,El Paso Independent School District and El Paso Community College jointly created Burges Early College High School. This unique school, first in the El Paso area, is specifically designed to provide students the opportunity to begin college during the ninth grade. ThisprogramenablesstudentstoprogressinfouryearsfromtheninthgradethroughthefirsttwoyearsofcollegeearningboththeirHB5 highschooldiplomaandanAssociateofArts from EL Paso Community College.

Students are a part of the Burges family, able to participate in high school activities and extra-curricular

program throughout their four years in high school. Underthis model, BECHS provides dual credit at no

cost tostudents; offers rigorous instruction and accelerated courses; provides academic and social support

services to helpstudents succeed; increases college readiness; and reduces barriers to college access.

Our commitment to our Burges community is that we prepare, nurture and guide our students to achieve excellence in all areas. We have created a great partnership between El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso.This partnership will remove any perceived educational obstacles for our students in their personal goals and dedication to earn an Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, and beyond.
