Bulle, tradition and fine dining

Bulle, situated at the foot of the Fribourg Pre-Alps, is the capital of La Gruyère, a predominantly agricultural region with a centuries-old tradition of fairs and cattle markets. Connoisseurs of regional products meet every year in late autumn at the “Salon Suisse des GoûtsetTerroirs”. This fair showcases fabulous regional produce and brings together more than 200 exhibitors from all over Switzerland, who are more than happy to let visitors taste their specialties. Visitors can also be assured of a lively atmosphere, authentic treats, arts and crafts at the traditional weekly market held on Thursday mornings all year round on the Market Square, and in July and August in the Grand-Rue.

The town center of Bulle is dominated by a fortified castle, which was commissioned by the Bishop of Lausanne in the 13th century. It now houses the prefecture and the police. The Muséegruérien, situated at the foot of the castle, presents the history and treasures of a region steeped in tradition. The permanent exhibition “Gruyère - Footprints and detours” allows visitors to experience the history of the region in an interactive way. Bulle also has a lively cultural scene. Concerts, plays, festivals and exhibitions - the town is never short of surprises!

Trips to the countryside are in plentiful supply. Mount Moléson is nearby and the countryside around La Gruyère dam is ideal for hiking, as well as cycling and bike tours. La Chia is an attractive, family-friendly skiing and snowshoeing area that is reachable within five minutes from Bulle.
