GENERAL INFORMATION

Buffalo Gap High School is a comprehensive, four-year high school and one of five high schools located in Augusta County, Virginia. The school is located eight miles west of Staunton and serves a predominately rural population. The enrollment is approximately 600 students in grades 9 through 12.

GPA/RANK IN CLASS

Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is figured for each student at the end of each semester. Marks for all subjects attempted for credit, whether passed or failed, are recorded and used in computing grade point average and determining class rank. This computation includes high school level credits earned in grade eight. Advanced Placement (AP), Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School (SVGS) and Dual Enrollment (DE) courses are weighted and an additional 1.0 quality point is added to the final grade unless the grade is F. When a course is repeated only the higher grade is calculated into the GPA; however, all courses attempted and the resulting grades are recorded on the transcript. The GPA is calculated to five significant digits, rounded to four. Class Rank is computed for all students pursuing an Advanced Studies Diploma or a Standard Diploma at the end of each semester. When two or more persons have the same rank, ranking resumes, allowing for the duplicate numbers.

GRADING SCALE / QUALITY POINTS

Semester and final course grades are computer generated based on the following average quality point scale:

A+ = 98-100 (4.3333) / B+ = 88-89 (3.3333) / C+ = 78-79 (2.3333) / D+ = 68-69 (1.3333) / F = 50-59 (0)
A = 92-97 (4.0000) / B = 82-87 (3.0000) / C = 72-77 (2.0000) / D = 62-67 (1.0000) / I = Incomplete
A- = 90-91 (3.6667) / B- = 80-81 (2.6667) / C- = 70-71 (1.6667) / D- = 60-61 (.6667) / NM = No Mark
