The Activities

Please complete the following activities as you read the novel. You will turn your completed work in on a weekly basis. Your work will be evaluated on completeness, the amount of thinking reflected in your writing, the links from the reading to your personal experience, and well-chosen examples from the book to support your responses. The Questions

Choose one of these questions to answer week 1 and week 2 in your reading response journal. Choose a different question for each week.

a)What was your reaction to what you read? Describe how you felt and why you think you felt that way.

b)Write about any similar experiences you have had to what happened in the story, or about a time when you felt the way one of the characters seemed to feel

c)Write an important or beautiful phrase, sentence, or a passage from the reading. Explain why it seemed important or beautiful to you.

d)If something in the story confuses you or creates questions in your mind, write about it and try to explain why it confuses you.

e)Write about evidence you found in the story supporting the generalizations about cyclic patterns of change (see the “Cyclic Patterns of Change” display in our classroom).

Participation

Each Thursday that you have an assignment due, you must come to class prepared. Late assignments will be reflected in your task completion grade. We will meet in groups with people who are reading the same books. Be prepared to discuss and listen.
