REPEAT PRESCRIBING
As part of a pharmacy’s contractual assurance the Essential Service specifications require the pharmacy to have appropriate SOPs for dispensing, repeat dispensing and support for self-care. It is important that these are reviewed regularly and that pharmacy staff are aware of the procedures and processes contained in them.
You may find the guidance Implementation of Repeat Dispensing, published in December 2013 and endorsed by the BMA, PSNC and NHS Employers helpful in reviewing your Repeat Dispensing SOP, in particular their Top 10 Tips
A practical guide to repeat dispensing has been produced by the National Prescribing
Centre –
More details on the service can be obtained from

PharmOutcomes Log-In
Message from Sarah Harley, BCC Public Health team:
“We have had several enquiries regarding logins for PharmOutcomes, you should all have existing logins from previously use of the system to provide the Respiratory MUR service. This is the same system and those logins will allow access.
It’s important you check you can get onto the system ASAP.
If you can’t login please go to the ‘Help’ tab and entre your details on the left hand side, PharmOutcomes will contact you directly with login details. This will be quicker and easier than contacting us, however if you continue to have issues please contact us at that point.

DBS Checks for pharmacy enhanced services
There has been a bit of confusion about the requirement for the DBS checks for the LES.Pharmacists should forward copies of their CRB or DBS check paperwork to Public Health. If you don’t have one, you should still send in your paperwork making it clear that you do not have a CRB/DBS and public health can arrange for this to be completed asap.

Reading School of Pharmacy will be launching an exciting new MSc by Research in Pharmacy Practice in October 2014. We have been asked to pass on the following message from Dr Parastou Donyai PhD, BPharm, PGDPRM(Open), PGCertLTHE, PGCertPsychTher, PGCertEBPPharmacist, MRPharmS
(Director of Pharmacy Practice at Reading School of Pharmacy from 1 May 2014)
The link to the course webpage is here:
I wanted to alert you to a funding opportunity which I think is really worth investigating for anyone who might be interested in undertaking the MSc but needs funding in order to do so (I was at a conference recently and managed to confirm with Pharmacy Research UK that this is a really viable option for funding studies on our MSc):
The only proviso is that the funding applies only to “community and primary care pharmacists” so please can I ask you to pass on this email to any community or primary care pharmacist whom you think might be interested in studying on the course. The deadline for submitting the funding application to Pharmacy Research UK is 30 May 2014 and I would strongly advise anyone thinking about this to contact me in the first instance so that I can provide any help needed for the application form.
Further information about the MSc can be obtained by contacting the Research Administrator in Pharmacy, Mrs Catherine Hale (copied in).
