In 2008 the south east again showed some up and coming ponies in the area points competitions. BSPS area 14, which covers Kent Sussex and Surrey, supreme points champion was 13hh show hunter pony Chiddock Rock Star.

Rock Star, owned by Judy Harvey from Bolney, and ridden by her daughter Georgia Harvey came out as a four year old at the beginning of last season and took the novice and open show hunter pony at the BSPS winter championship. Judy bought him as a foal from his breeder, Marlene Davey because he was out of Madonna, making him a half brother to Flash Harry, the show hunter pony she won at HOYS with in 2006.

Judy said of the bay four year old: “He is a very easy gently pony.” He went from strength to strength, winning the BSPS area 14 championship and qualifying for HOYS at Kent County.

One of his established 13hh open rivals was reserve show hunter pony: Emily Coulstock’s Parkhill Cantona. His highlight of the year was second in the pretty polly at the Royal International. In the south east area points Emily went one better with her Ninfield stud show pony, Ninfield Pure Genius, who took the show pony points championship.

The Coulstock family have had Pure Genius since a yearling when he was bought from the breeder, Marlene Davey. He spent a few weeks away whilst being broken by Guy Landau, but otherwise has been at his Billingshurst home for 7 years. “It will be a real wrench to sell him said Jane Coulstock. But Emily, 14, will look rather tall on him next year.

Pure Genius, by Ninfield Millionaire, regularly qualifies for the pretty polly show pony at the Royal International and this year was ninth at HOYS.

Older sister Amy, 16, had the top 15hh show hunter pony in BSPS area 14, Hamptonne Fair & Square was has won at HOYS and Windsor with Amy.

The champion working hunter pony was Georgina Strapp’s 15hh working hunter pony Mini Cruise. Georgina, from Robertsbridge, said: “Mini got a clear on almost every outing.” Her best placings were second at Suffolk County, second at Kent County, third at South of England, fourth at Windsor and ninth at the Royal International. Mini, 8 years, show jumps through the winter and has clocked up £600 actual winnings in BSJA classes.

Reserve working hunter pony was Mrs Bower’s 13hh Zelston Bellquest who topped off the season with a third at HOYS, ridden by Rohan Cadney-Moon.
