Bryant G Speed Memorial

Scholarship Program

Dr. Bryant G Speed was a wonderful Christian man of great character and integrity who practiced Orthodontics in Selma, AL for 44 years. He had a profound impact on the lives of young people he treated in his practice, the students he taught as a faculty member at UAB for over 30 years, and on Dr. Wood who was his student, colleague and friend. He was a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted father and husband. Dr. Speed had the gift of endearing himself to those he met and then passing on the knowledge, wisdom, and faith with which he had been blessed. He was passionate about the attributes of discipline, character, learning and selfless service to others and each of these was always on display in the life he lived. It is with this spirit that we have named the scholarship program after him and we are seeking to reward a young man and woman who display these same attributes.

Scholarship

Wood Orthodontics will award two (2) $1000 non-renewable awards, one to a female and one to a male applicant, to graduating seniors who will attend an accredited public or private two-year college, vocational technical institute, or four-year college during the 2016-2017 school year. The funds will be paid directly to the schools upon presentation of the tuition bill and will only be applied towards tuition, books, fees or housing. One-half ($500) will be distributed in the fall semester of the first year of attendance and the remaining $500 will not be awarded if the student does not continue full time status for the second semester. We also reserve the right to forward this scholarship to another deserving applicant in the event that the winner is awarded grants/scholarships that cover the first year’s cost of tuition, books, room and board.
