1 / GENERAL DUTIES
To ensure the best possible outcomes for Children and Young People (CYP) with Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) aged 0 – 19/24 by working collaboratively with professionals in statutory and non statutory organisations
All specialist teachers will have a specialism in one or more areas of need this post requiring a specialism in Early Years education.
2 / LEARNING AND TEACHING
2.1 / Provide specialist teaching expertise and advice to improve the quality of teaching and learning for children with SEND supporting the delivery of and access to the EYFS and school curriculum other appropriate approaches to learning.
2.2 / Improve practitioner’s capacity to raise achievement and attainment of children and young people and overcome the barriers to learning of children and young people with SEND by modeling good practice and developing training, particularly at points of transition.
2.3 / Provide high quality, highly specialist information, intervention and support for children with SEND.
2.4 / Actively promote the development of an ethos that supports independence and resilience in children with SEND.
2.5 / To liaise closely with professionals within the district specialist provision to promote seamless working between all parts of the county wide resource.
2.6 / Develop and deliver training to Early Years Teachers and practitioners in a range of educational settings to promote inclusive practice and knowledge of SEND.
2.7 / Work in partnership with families, and a range of educational settings to promote and facilitate the development of inclusive practices in order to raise the attainment and achievement of children with SEND.
2.8 / Support schools and settings to meet the requirements and expectations of the SEND Code of Practice and the Kent strategy. You will carry out specialist observations and provide advice in order to inform appropriate outcomes and strategies for individual children inform local as well as county decision making.
2.9 / Support multi agency planning and decision making fora, taking on the role of lead professional, where appropriate.
2.10 / Promote opportunities for children and young people to be actively involved in decisions affecting them.
2.11 / Promote the involvement of parents and carers in decisions and interventions involving their children.
2.12 / To champion inclusive education, attainment and achievement at a local level.
2.13 / Maintain records of interventions including appropriate activities and support strategies and their delivery in line withSTLS practice.
2.14 / Utilise data to identify strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations to facilitate setting / school improvement.
2.15 / Contribute to the monitoring of children’s achievement and attainment and keep records to inform County and local database.
2.16 / Use ICT as a tool for communication, record keeping and managing information.
2.17 / Develop robust links with other professional staff to provide coherent and consistent multi-professional interventions for children and young people, particularly through integrated working.
2.18 / Undertake continuous professional development to enable the postholder to maintain and develop specialist skills, knowledge and expertise in line with Teachers’ Standards – September 2012.
2.19 / Ensure appropriate use of specialist equipment and technology to support learning.
2.20 / Participate proactively and effectively in professional supervision and performance management processes.

  • treating students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position

  • showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others
  • not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

3.2 / Keep proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards in attendance and punctuality.
3.3 / Have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory frameworks for teachers’ professional duties and responsibilities.
3.5 / Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support.
3.7 / Attend and contribute productively to school meetings as appropriate to the role
4 / OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 / Share in the corporate responsibility for the well-being and discipline of all students whilst you are within the school with due regard to the school procedures for behaviour management
4.3 / Priorities for the STLS will be agreed in relation to each district/Area plan and link to Special School SLA and county priorities.
4.4 / The deployment of the post holder will be mainly within an identified locality but may require travel across a wider area.
4.5 / The postholder must carry out their duties in accordance with the KCC Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy Statement, the Children’s Safeguards Policy, the Health and Safety Policy and the requirements and standards as outlined in the SLA
