The Brooklyn City Council met in regular session on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the MJM Community Center, 105 Jackson Street with Mayor Solem opening the meeting at 6:05 P.M. with Councilmen Nathan Taylor, Les Taylor, Carl Tubbs and Leah Keller. Absent: Stockton Harter. Others present: Lavern Bartachek- Supt. of Public Works, Tammy Kriegel- City Treasurer, Attorney Fred Stiefel and Peter Stiefel.

AGENDA

Motion by Nathan Taylor, 2nd by Tubbs to approve the Regular Council meeting minutes from March 6, 2017. All Ayes, Motion carried.

Council reviewed the Library Board Minutes from March 6, 2017.

FINANCE

RESOLUTION 2017-16: RESOLUTION APPROVING APPLICATION FOR PAYMENT FROM MMS CONSULTANTS, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $25,500.00 FOR CONSTRUCTION SERVICES FOR A WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT. Motion by Nathan Taylor, 2nd by Les Taylor to approve this resolution. All Ayes, Motion carried.

PUBLIC WORKS

MMS Consultants, Inc. Cost Estimates for Future Projects: Motion Nathan Taylor, 2nd Les Taylor to update the Urban Renewal Plan to include MMS Consultants, Inc. List of Future Projects, Old 6 Road Paving Project and the South Orchard Street Bridge Project. All Ayes, Motion Carried.

Charles Kochuyt Driveway Enlargement: Motion Nathan Taylor, 2nd Tubbs to allow Charles Kochuyt to enlarge his driveway to park a side trailer with the Superintendent of Public Works specifications. All ayes, Motion carried.

Sanitary Sewer Service Replacement Policy: Motion Nathan Taylor, 2nd Les Taylor to adopt the Sanitary Sewer Service Replacement Policy drawn up by the Superintendent of Public Works. All ayes, Motion carried.

Iowa Children’s Water Festival Donation: Keller is going to look into the possibility of donating to an environmental cause that would benefit children in our community.

Brooklyn Clean Up Week: It was decided to do clean up week as done in the past with dumpsters by the City Shop. The exception will be charging for TV’s, electronics, tires and possibly appliances if we cannot find someone to take them for free.

BUILDING, PLANNING & ZONING

Council reviewed building permits

Council would like Sheri to fight the insurance company to have the cost of the lettering on the outside of the building paid for. The lettering said Brooklyn Municipal Building and had to come down with bricks.
