Newbridge College started the New Year off with a bang when claiming all four of the Interschools competitions on offer at the resumption of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland league in Broadmeadow equestrian centre on Sunday. They also claimed the best turned out prize.

In the Open competition The Newbridge College team of Caoimhe Sweeney on Kippure Steepleview Jack, Jack Ross on Bally David Souz, Emma O’Callaghan on La Paca and Karen Casey on Primadonna Girl saw off strong opposition in a three way jump off against St Gerard’s ( Kirstie Connole on The Fugitive, Shona Callon on My Jasper, Sarah Bloor on Penure princess and Blathnaid Boyd riding Isle of Glass ben) and Kings Hospital with their jump off representatives Karen Casey and Emma O’Callaghan leaving all poles standing to claim the win. The kings Hospital team was Rebekah Forster on the Dam Buster Poppy Connolly Carew on Bella’s Money Emma Smith on Almost famous and Ellen Forster riding Veronicas Boy Poppy Connolly Carew and Emma Smith posted the fastest time for KH but were denied the win with an unlucky pole on the ground. St Gerard’s also clear in the jump off was four seconds slower than Newbridge to take second place. Its jump off representatives were Kirsti Connole and Sarah Bloor. Ard scoil Na Troinoide was fastest of the four faulters to take fourth followed by Wesley College and Mercy Ballymahon.

The open Individual competition was a one two for Newbridge with Caoimhe Sweeney riding Kippure Steepleview jack just pipping fellow student Karen Casey on Primadonna Girl to claim victory. Christopher White from Mercy Ballymahon was next fastest to claim third ahead of Sarah Bloor from St Gerard’s. The remaining two places were both claimed by Derek Shaw from Ballymahon, which meant that Jessica Aragane from Wesley claims the final league point.

The novice team competition was a two way jump off. Once again Newbridge took the win when leaving all the poles standing in the jump off round. The jump off representatives were Emma Dillon on Pokey and Hannah Rasmussen on Prancing Paudi and their fellow team members were Clodagh Finlay on Molly Malone and Ciara Harris on Dickenson’s jewel. Mercy Ballymahon was second and was represented by Denny Hebron on Derisney Star, Sarah Farrell on Willy jump Tanya Farrell on Mosstown Olympia and Kevin Manning on Mac. Wesley College claimed third ahead of Kildare town Community school in fourth and fifth places and Ard Scoil Na Troinoide, Athy in sixth.

Emma Dillon kept up Newbridge’s run of good luck by claiming the win in the novice individual in a time of 29.47 just ahead of Holly Micklem and Tilly Shaw both from Wesley College in second and third. Tara Mulreid from Ardscoil Na Troinoide was fourth.

The action this weekend moves to Killoserry in the east and Tipperary in the south.
