Broadcast Engineer

Georgia Public Broadcasting is looking for a Broadcast Engineer that will be responsible for the successful maintenance, repair, design, installation, operation, documentation and support of complex radio and TV production and broadcast systems. The Broadcast Engineer will work collaboratively with the Engineering team to include EIC duties and on-call duties.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in broadcast engineering or related field; military or other significant experience/training can be a substitute for degree requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and repairing broadcast systems in a file-based environment as a broadcast engineer.
  • CBTE SBE certification desired, but not required and be willing to obtain it within first year of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IP networking as applied to broadcast engineering and configuring CISCO networking equipment
  • Familiarity with Harris NetVX encoding equipment,
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, and proficiency with Visio.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast engineering industry standards and practices and studio transmission link technologies such as T1, DS3, EVPL, etc.
  • Must be able to run cables in a broadcast facility and be familiar with FCC regulations related to EAS, CALM Act and closed captioning.
  • Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license or attain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Familiarity with WireCAD and PBS standards a plus.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Install, repair, maintain and perform preventive maintenance and upgrades on all equipment with the Broadcast signal flow for both radio and TV in a multi-platform environment.
  • Performs the configuration and troubleshooting of computers, servers and IT infrastructure for various broadcast needs and communicates clearly with peers and clients.
  • Work collaboratively with IT/Operations/Production departments and the engineering team on various projects to trouble-shoot and repair technical problems that arise.
  • Identify and respond to problems that impact on air operations and client productions; identify potential issues and develop and implement plans to address and resolve them; and prepare reports required by management.
  • Participates in the implementation of hardware and software solutions that meet the technology and business needs of the various departments.
  • Creates and maintains drawings for assigned projects and assists in the planning, design, documentation and implementation of various systems to include servers, network equipment and managed TCP/IP infrastructure technology and software applications.
  • Acts as the Engineer in Charge of live events as assigned and available on-call 24/7 on a weekly basis.
