New Land Rover Discovery Has Grand Debut in China

Everyday ingenuity has remained at the heart of the Discovery for the last 27 years. The New Discovery has heralded the transformation from traditional automotive to highly digital vehicle with more than 1.2 million customers joining us for every step of the journey. Its unrivalled capability and technology, driven by Land Rover’s "Above and Beyond" concept, has made it one of the most hotly desired models available. Its newest version draws on the last four generations of the Discovery to showcase the legendary history of Discovery family.

As the world's most versatile all-terrain premium SUV, the new Land Rover Discovery has a lightweight aluminium construction. This makes it the lightest and stiffest Discovery ever, and contributes to an enhanced on-road performance.

The model firmly looks towards the future; it also respects its Discovery roots, with details such as a stepped roof, distinctive C Pillar, and asymmetric rear surface design. New Discovery’s revolutionary exterior encases a sophisticated, versatile and spacious interior. The central panel is highly refined, intersected by a strong vertical pillar that’s both clean and customer friendly. This is a prominent interior design cue of the Discovery family. The precise finishes and use of premium materials throughout give customers a relaxing experience and allows intuitive use of the advanced technology under the skin.

The New Discovery's ingenious features treat every occupant to ultimate in-car comfort. The world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology enables passengers to reconfigure the model's seven full-sized adult seats, adding flexibility to its interior space.

Taking modern families' need for comfortable seating and convenient storage into consideration, the New Discovery ensures improved seating and storage space through design and engineering integrity. It can accommodate seven adults in a body less than five metres in length (4,970mm), with up to 2,500 litres of clever storage space for 21st century family essentials. Each seat can be folded independently, which leads to 21 different configurations overall. The car's Powered Inner Tailgate can be used to hold luggage or folded down to provide stationary seating and easy access to the generous loading area, taking the Discovery family to new heights of versatility.

Alongside the spacious, flexible, and intelligent layout, the other key to the model’s superior versatility is JLR’s InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. The 10-inch touchscreen positioned on the centre console promises intuitive operation, enabling Land Rover’s designers to reduce the number of switches on the centre console by a third for a clean and uncluttered appearance. A total of up to six 12V sockets and as many as seven USB charging points (up to nine when the rear seat entertainment is fitted) across all three rows of seats ensure the New Discovery can allow passengers to power multiple smartphones or tablets simultaneously, coping with the demands of even the most connected families.

The model also sports a battery-less Activity Key that can function optimally in extreme environments. It can withstand temperatures ranging from -50 to +125 degrees Celsius and is waterproof at depths of up to 30 metres, allowing owners to lock and unlock the vehicle without the need to carry a standard key fob.

In addition to its exceptional versatility, the New Discovery exemplifies Land Rover's off-road and technological hallmarks. It is fitted with Land Rover’s next-generation Terrain Response 2 technology, which automatically monitors the driving conditions to ensure the vehicle is primed to cope with a range of surfaces. Its ground clearance is rated at 283mm, while a maximum wading depth of 900mm puts the Discovery in a class of its own in terms of off-road capability.
