Agenda for Bring In Your Parents Day

The format is completely up to you but here are some suggestions on what you might want to include:

Presentation

  • Give parents an overview of the company and include information on what you do, the market and the type of work that you are involved in
  • Outline thestructure of the company for parents to see where their child fits in and what their role is
  • Don’t be afraid to shout about your company; everything from award wins to employee benefits. Parents will be interested to hear about all the reasons they have to be proud of their child’s career choice
  • Employee speakers – hearing from the employees first-hand is a great way to mix it up, particularly if the speakers’ own parents are there on the day

Activity

  • You may want to offer an activity for parents and employees to get involved in to break the ice and encourage conversation
  • We’ve pulled together a list of extra ideas for the daythat might get you started. From the morelight hearted and fun to more formal panel discussions, you get to choose the tone of the event – you can find these in your BIYP in a box toolkit
  • Make sure that you think about those employees that haven’t or can’t bring in their parents to ensure that they can still feel part of the day – you can encourage them to Skype or Facetime their parents with a workplace tour, or tweet, Instagram or post a #BIYP thank you to them for all their support in getting them where they aretoday

Networking

  • Allow some time at the end of the event for parents to network, spend time with their child and some of their colleagues
  • You may want to think about putting on some more refreshments while everybody mingles
  • Have a photographer taking pictures or filming the day. The images can be used on your social media sites using the official #BIYP hashtag, or even to send as keepsakes to the parents that attended. LinkedIn’s official channels will be retweeting and engaging online with companies who share their pictures of the day

Tour of the workplace

  • Depending on where you work and how big your workplace is you might want to take parents on a tour in small groups
  • Make sure to build in some time for parents to visit their child’s desk / workstation

Wrapping up the day

  • You might want to hand out any takeaways that have been developed for parents (e.g. goodie bags, photos)
