  1. The Purpose of the BEST-KNU Program

BEST-KNU is an active support plan to host well-qualified foreign students aiming for the advanced researches and academic degree in Kangwon National University, Korea.

2. Eligibility and Requirements

1) Nationality : Non-Korean citizens

2) Education requirements :

- For Master / Master-Ph.D Course

: Applicants who have Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree of

university education prospected Bachelor degree awardee.

- For Doctoral Course

: Applicants who have Master degree or prospected Master degree awardee.

3) Applicant who has official TOEFL score of over 550(PBT)/213(CBT)/79 (IBT),

IELTS 6.0

4) Applicant who is majoring Korean Studies, does not have to submit any English Score. Instead,

He/She can be eligible by the academic performance within top 5% in legitimate 4 + years university(college).

3. Scholarship

1) Tuition : Tuition will be exempted for all the awardee of the program

2) Duration of benefit

- 4 semesters for the master course upon required academic achievement

- 5 semesters for the doctorial course upon required academic achievement

3) Health Insurance Fee : KNU will pay the health insurance fee.

4) Minimum 200,000Won(about US$166) per a month and dormitory fee will be provided

by the academic advisor.

4.Application Procedure

Applicants are requested to submit the documents listed below by registred mail to the

Office of International Affairs, KangwonNationalUniversity. (based on registered day

by Korean Postal Service)

Once applicants submit the documents by March 30 (September30) of each year, they will be processed for Fall(Next Spring) Semester admission.

(1) All documents for application should be filled out in English or Korean

(if possible) and be type-written, double space, 10pt, on size A4.

(2) Application document which do not contain all of the required documents will be rejected.

(3) All documents received byKangwonNationalUniversity will not be returned.

5. List of the documents for application

(※All documents should be prepared in English)

①An official application form

②A certificate of the applicant's university degree and equivalent education.

③A certificate of the applicant's academic records during university education.

④A clear copy of ID Card which is able to show applicant's citizenship, birth date, etc.

⑤A letter of recommendation from the applicant's teacher or professor who knows the applicant well enough.

⑥A letter of recommendation from the president(chancellor) of the applicant's

home institution (The official submission of this document by the applicant's

home institution can satisfy this recommendation)

⑦Resume with applicant’s photograph(4×3cm; upper front figure without hat, taken not before the recent six months)

⑧A certificate of the applicant's public service and job experience (if applicable)

⑨An essay for self-introduction and the academic plan at KNU (within 2 pages;A4 size;10pt) 6. Selection of Awardee

Each awardee will be informed by fax or e-mail to the contact address during mid June

for Fall semester, (mid December for Spring semester).

7. Other Remarks :

All applicants are encouraged to consult with the future academic advisor of interest before

Application.
