Bright Space All Star Volunteer Program

Setting up a volunteer program*

? Establish a coordinator/co-coordinators for your Bright Space All Star Volunteer Program. Completethe Coordinator Application. Obtain supervisor approval. Sign the Coordinator Agreement. Submit it to your Project Manager. (Julie Kelly or Jane )

? Contact/meet with the potential partner shelter/agency.

? Determine shelter/agency needs and develop a plan for volunteering in the shelter (days, times,

responsibilities, etc.). Provide the Shelter Orientation Guide to your shelter/agency partner.

? Meet with Bright Horizons staff to discuss volunteer opportunities to support the Bright Space.

? Recruit a volunteer team for the All Star Volunteer Program. Collect signed Volunteer Applications.Review Coordinator Training.

? Notify your Project Manager at the Bright Horizons Foundation for Childrenthat you intend to implement your plan. Provide the name(s) of the coordinator(s), the shelter/agency,and the anticipated start date.

? Review the ASVP Volunteer training.

? Establish a training plan for ASVP Volunteers (followed by implementation). This will include a

web-based or power point training, review of shelter/agency specific guidelines, and written/reading training component.

? Ensure that all ASVP Volunteers understand and meet the background checks and clearances definedby the state of residence. Verify with your shelter/agency partner that appropriate forms aresubmitted.

? Obtain signed Volunteer Agreements from all ASVP Volunteers.

After each agreement is signed by ashelter/agency representative, make two copies (one for the volunteer, one for the agency). The original is the responsibility of the Bright Horizons ASVP Coordinator(s). Ensure that shelterorientation requirements have been met.

? Provide contact information for the ASVP Coordinator(s) and the shelter/agency, directions to theshelter/agency, and transportation specifics (parking restrictions or public transportation information)to each volunteer. Ensure that volunteers know where to enter the shelter/agency and who theircontact will be while visiting.

? Provide the Volunteer Feedback Form (and a place or method for returning it) to each volunteer priorto their shift. Alternatively, the coordinator may collect documented verbal feedback.

?Once the ASVP Volunteer program is implemented, plan to contact the shelter/agency contact at leastquarterly to discuss successes and/or challenges. Share updates with your Project Manager. In the interim,provide timely feedback to both volunteers and the agency. Contact immediately for challenges or concerns.
