Brief profile of uganda wash alliance partner organizations

1. Uganda rainwater association (urwa)

The Uganda Rainwater Association (URWA) is a national membership non-governmental organisation with a main purpose of raising the profile of rainwater management and utilization among all development sectors in Uganda.

2. LINK TO PROGRESS (LTP)

Link to progress is an international NGO which started operating in uganda in 2008. LTP registered with Uganda National NGO board in 2009. The founding members and partners of LTP have been funding water projects in Northern Uganda since 2003. LTP supports the rural poor to support themselves, by providing cost-efficient basic services based on demand and contribution of costs. Beneficiaries are well mobilised and trained on their responsibilities for sustainability. Ltp’s core services are in provision of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene to the rural poor, government schools and public health facilities.

3. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN’S ACTION IN DEVELOPMENT (NAWAD)

National Association for Women’s Action in Development (NAWAD) is a voluntary non-governmental women’s organization that was initiated by a group of women and legally registered in 2010 with the Ugandan NGO board (S. 5914/8366) with amission toempower women and girls to achieve social justice, economic stability and sustainable management of their environment through capacity building, research, advocacy, and service provision.

4. AMREF HEALTH AFRICA

Amref Health Africa is an international African organization founded in Kenya in 1957. Working with and through African communities, health systems and governments, Amref Health Africa aims to close the gap that prevents people from accessing their basic right to health. Amref Health Africa is committed to improving the health of people in Africa by partnering with and empowering communities.

5. NETWORK FOR WATER AND SANITATION (NETWAS)

Network for Water and Sanitation (NETWAS Uganda) is a local non- profit making organization that was registered in Uganda in 1996 to provide services in the water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector. NETWAS Uganda is affiliated to NETWAS International, which is part of the international training network (ITN) for water and waste management, which supports the activities of the sector in developing countries.

6. UGANDA SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (USSIA)

Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) is a registered Membership Organization formed in 1979 with a major purpose to enhance the industrial development of Small Scale Industries in the Country right from the grass root level. The mission of USSIA is to enhance the development and competitiveness of micro, small and medium scale industries and supportive service enterprises through quality services delivery and advocacy.

7. AGENCY FOR SUSTAINABLE RURAL TRANSFORMATION (AFSRT)

Agency for Sustainable Rural Transformation (AFSRT) is a Civil Society Organisation which was formed in 2003, and legally registered in 2006 by a group of professionals. AFSRT contributes to the empowerment of rural communities in the Northern and Eastern regions of Uganda, through provision of appropriate information, skills and resources for equitable support of grassroots communities and their institutions to enhance participatory, economically dynamic and environmentally sustainable rural development.

8. EMESCO DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (EDF)

Emesco Development Foundation (EDF) is a reputable local pro-poor development organization based and operational in Kibaale District in Mid-Western Uganda. EDF is duly incorporated as a Company Limited by guarantee and not having a share capital according to the laws of Uganda and for that matter it is a not-for-profit development organization. EDF is very active and well experienced in implementing rural development programmes in three principal sectors; sustainable agriculture, community health and water and sanitation.

9. HEALTH THROUGH WATER AND SANITATION (HEWASA)

The Health through Water and Sanitation (HEWASA) programme is one of the major social services and economic development programmes of the catholic diocese of Fort Portal through which water and sanitation services are delivered to the rural communities within the diocese. The programme was started as a pilot water and sanitation project in 1994 and later on, in 1996, was changed into an extended programme delivering an integrated package of water development as well as household and school hygiene and sanitation improvement services. Since its inception, the HEWASA programme has consistently provided safe water supply and sanitation improvement services to the rural population within its area of operation.

10. JOINT EFFORT TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT (JESE)

Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) is an indigenous non-governmental, service-providing organization that is duly registered with the National NGO board (55914/1019). Since its establishment in 1993, JESE, through her work in improved agricultural production and natural resources management and long term development, has greatly contributed to improved livelihoods of target beneficiaries and provided opportunities for a better life especially for the rural poor households and communities.
