  • RWJF Rapid Assessment for Programs and Policies to Prevention Childhood Obesity (2005) discussed with CDC and NIH in early 2006
  • RWJF commits 500 million for childhood obesity prevention over 5 years (2007)
  • May 9, 2007 call among senior leadership of RWJF (Dr. Riza LM) and NIH (Dr. Griff Rodgers – NIDDK and Dr. Betsy Nabel – NHLBI) to discuss convening collaborative effort in childhood obesity

Initial discussionsstarted in May 2007 between NIH and RWJF on NCCOR; first call that included CDC was scheduled for Oct 25, 2007; plan was final in Nov 2008 and formal launch was Feb 2009 /

Forming the Collaborative
2007-2008 / Operations Structure
  • Steering committee with 1 rep from each of CDC, NIH, RWJF
  • Coordinating Center: responsible for strategic planning, coordination of NCCOR activities, communication, & evaluation
  • External Scientific Panel: provide suggestions to NCCOR on direction, specific projects, and emerging work; inform NCCOR about new science, research ideas, and connections between extramural research and practice; and serve as a valuable liaison between NCCOR and the extramural research community.

2009 Formal Launch (Year 1) /
  • NCCOR launches debuts nccor.org
  • NCCOR hosts four-part webinar series on policy evaluation

2010 (Year 2) /
  • USDA joins NCCOR
  • NCCOR is chosen for Inaugural HHSinnovates award; one of first 6 awardees for this new recognition first launched in 2011
  • Contract for Health Communities Study is awarded

2011 (Year 3) /
  • NCCOR launches Catalogue of Surveillance Systems and Measures Registry
  • NCCOR co-hosts 3rd food Marketing Research Roundtables
  • NCCOR hosts Evaluation Forum to ensure best approaches used across multiple relevant evaluation activities related to childhood obesity, including efforts such as the 2009
  • ARRA funded CDC initiatives for community-based health improvements
  • NCCOR receives NIH Directors award
  • Envision’s COMNet publishes in The Lancet Obesity Series
  • NCCOR jointly funds USDA Food Pattern Equivalent’s Database
  • NCCOR co-hosts Green Health: Building Sustainable Schools for Health

  • NCCOR hosts Farm-to-Fork workshop on Surveillance of the U.S. Food System
  • NCCOR hosts three-day Envision Summit
  • NCCOR hosts Youth Energy Expenditure Expert workshop
  • NCCOR publishes report from Green Health workshop
  • NCCOR releases demonstration videos on Catalogue of Surveillance Systems and Measures Registry
  • NCCOR exhibits its first booth and hosts reception at CDC Weight of the Nation (WON) conference

2013 (Year 5) /
  • NCCOR members publish “Healthy Eating Design Guidelines for School Architecture” in Preventing Chronic Disease
  • NCCOR publishes first edition of the SNAP-Ed toolkit
  • NCCOR premieres Health Eating Index video and publishes related infographic series, fact sheets, webpages
  • NCCOR publishes green health infographic to highlight seven green health strategies to improve built environments and combat obesity and launches updated website
