BRIDGNORTH & DISTRICT AMATEUR SNOOKER LEAGUE

The Bridgnorth Snooker League celebrated the conclusion to its 63rd Season at the Presentation and Dinner Evening held at the Down Hotel on Friday last (16th May 2014). Runner Up were Chelmarsh B who also celebrated by also winning the Challenge Cup. Highley B were Second Division Champions and Runners Up were Shifnal A who turned the tables on Highley by beating them in the Division's League Cup Final. The Wooden Spoon yet again went to Chelmarsh D, whilst Shifnal B collected the Consolation Cup.

The Division's two most sporting teams as elected by team captains were Arley and Alveley C.

Simon Thomas was Individuals Champion for a record thirteenth time and unbeaten in the completion for the past four seasons, and claimed the First Division's 'Most Wins' trophy. Ian Postans retained the Individuals Handicap Cup and with Matt Judd collected the Ron Pugh Doubles Cup.

Reg Burton collected the Over 60's Cup for a third time, whilst Ashley Preece retained the Under 25's Cup, emulating his father Alan's achievement twenty-two years earlier. The Secretary's Shield was picked up by Kevin Hawkins whilst the 49er's shield went to Phil Turner.

Lean Cooper, father to the late Graham Cooper, was on hand to present his Cup to winners Mick Brezwyn and Nick Carson and Derek Webb presented his trophy to Mike Brezwyn for the 'Highest Break' of the season, which was a magnificent 99. Mike, incidentally was the League's first 'ton' break maker (a 106) eighteen years ago.

The 3-a-Side winners, for consecutive seasons, were Steve Jones, Steve Evans and Dave Siddons. Steve and Dave also collected the accolade of equal Highest Break in the Second Division, whilst Steve was back again to share most wins for the Division with Chris Adams.

In his concluding speech, Chairman Mark Worsdellalso applauded Steve Jones for his diligent work throughout the season as Secretary and proposed a special thanks to the Down Hotel and its staff for, once again, being such excellent hosts.
