Bridges Preparatory School (BPS) seeks an engaged and innovativeeducation leader to serve as Head of School. BPS is chartered under theState Charter District of South Carolina. Bridges Preparatory School mission is to provide students equal access to a high quality K-12 whole child education that maximizes academic excellence and strength of character in a student-centered learning environment created by faculty of lifelong learners.

Bridges Preparatory School is a K-7 State Charter school with a challenging academic program that focuses on STEM education and the Paideia methodology. BPS will become a K-12 school by adding one grade level each year. BPS is located in the waterfront community of historic downtown Beaufort, SC.

The successful candidate must be an accomplished, dynamic leader with demonstrated ability to inspire teachers to excel in their positions and motivate students to achieve their highest potential. TheHead of School will possess a communication style that promotes collaborative environment while possessing the abilityto effectively lead,guide,anddirectinstructionaland supportserviceteamsbysettingand achievingthehigheststandards ofexcellence.This will provide eachstudentaccess to acomplete,valuable,meaningfuland personallyrewardingeducation resulting instudent achievement. The Head of School will work to nurture strong relationships between teachers, administrative staff, and students. The Head of School will serve as the education liaison to the Governing Board, and will assist in developing and implementing the school's mission, vision, and strategic planning. The Head of School will ensure BPS is meeting the needs ofeach student while adhering to all applicable requirements of local, state, and federal agencies.

Major Responsibilities:

Serve as the administrative head of the school and, as such, have responsibility for coordination of the total resources of the school and general supervision of all school activities, safety, and welfare.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of all educational activities in the school.
  • Maintain interest and promote the welfare of the total school.
  • Carry on a program for the continuous improvement of instruction of the school consistent with the philosophy of education approved by the Governing Board.
  • Interpret the educational objectives of the school to parents and other citizens of the community and encourage their participation in efforts to improve the school program.
  • Direct all professional staff within the building in accordance with the limits of his/her certification and competency; these staff members are to be directly responsible to the Head of School.
  • Responsible for use, safety, security, and condition of the buildings and grounds in an attractive, clean, and safe condition
  • Work with faculty and staff to secure new sources of funding and supervise all fundraising activities.
  • Initiate and/or assist in the recruitment, selection, assignment, orientation, staff development, evaluation, transfer, promotion, and dismissal of staff.
  • Work cooperatively with the Chairperson of the Governing Board of Directors and Treasurer and/or Finance Committee of the Board of Directors in the preparation of budgets and in the business operations of the school.
  • Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Governing Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in education administration or equivalent experience.

•Valid elementary or secondary principal’s certificate

•Five to seven years of experience in a leadership role within a school as assistant and

or principal or related experience.

•experience in school finance, budgeting and working with boards;

•relative charter school experience preferred;

•knowledge of local, state, and federal education laws and reporting;

•experience using a student information system or other database; and

•proven leadership in educational innovation (S.T.E.M., whole child ed., or other).
