There is a story behind Romeo and Juliet as there was behind all of his poems. He wanted to write a book/play that would be remembered forever and always. When William Shakespeare got married he was in love, as was Romeo. William Shakespeare was 18 years old when he married Anne Hathaway. They were both madly in-love. But shortly after their marriage the love died down and it just seemed to be that there was a husband and wife but no relationship in the house.
William Shakespeare wanted to show people that there was a dark side of love. That love was not all butterflies and rainbows. He wanted people to know that when they get married it can be a challenge and it isn’t going to come easy to anyone. So he wrote Romeo and Juliet to show people what he meant. Romeo and Juliet had love at first but as William Shakespeare intended the love dies in the end.
