The Coffee County Board of Education met in regular session on May 9, 2011 at the Coffee County Board of Education.

The following members were present: Sims, Norton, Henley, Galyen, Milburn, Morris and Johnson.

Brett Henley had a word of prayer and led the pledge of allegiance.

The Board recognized the following clubs and individuals for their outstanding achievements

CCCHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); CCCHS Lady Raider Basketball Team;

CCMS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); CCCHS FCCLA Culinary Competition Team;

Melanie Parker; Cindy Carter; Daryl Collins; David Vinson ; Jessica Bogle 4th grader at North Coffee; and; Dylan Griswold 1st Grader at Deerfield.

  5. METS (Middle Tennessee State University Educational Talent Search) permission to attend University of Tennessee Memphis on June 7-8, 2011.
  6. CCCHS FCCLA Culinary Arts to attend the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California – July 9-15, 2011.

POLICY PERSONAL COMMUNICATION DEVICE

Students may possess personal communication devices, such as cell phones, while on school property. However, the personal communication device must be in the off mode and may not be used, seen, or heard upon arrival on campus until school is dismissed. The principal or his/her designee may grant permission to use a personal communication device at the principal’s or his/her designee’s discretion. A device used outside these parameters shall result in confiscation of the device until such time as it may be released. A student in violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action.

PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Students may possess personal electronic devices such as CD players, Ipods or MP3 players while on school property. However, the personal electronic device must be in the off mode and may not be used, seen, or heard upon arrival on campus until school is dismissed. The principal or his/her designee may grant permission to use a personal electronic device at the principal’s or his/her designee’s discretion. Use or improper storage of the personal electronic device will result in confiscation of the device until such time as it may be released. A student in violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action.

Mr. Casteel reminded the board about the Board Retreat from 8:00 to 3:00 at UTSI. Mr. Casteel also reminded the board that a work session would be needed and asked to set a date. The date was set for May 23, at 4:00 p.m.
