Brenton Jones BIO
Born in Adelaide South Australia in 1956 to parents Allan and Jaqueline Jones. Father was a Bank Manager and my mother worked with Australia Post as a sales clerk.
Worked 19 years for the Commonwealth Department of Civil Aviation as a Radio and Electronics Technical officer at several locations about Australia. Served a term at Casey Antarctica during 1989. Returned to duties at Devonport Airport until accepting a redundancy in late 1992 after commissioning systems to be remotely controlled from Melbourne.
Operated a small self-employed business from 1992 designing and installing electronic systems.
Through the Government’s Television Black Spots program I surveyed and designed solutions for Television reception problem areas throughout Tasmania. Constructed and commissioned infrastructure funded by the program.
Graduated in 2004 as a Bachelor Degree in Adult and Vocational Education and engaged with temporary teaching positions at various locations in Tasmania. Followed on gaining more qualifications at the Australian Maritime College in Transport and Distribution specialising in Engineering and Deck officer training. Worked as a Maritime Engineer and Master for several years about Tasmania and Queensland.
Worked casual jobs in three different industries to make up full time employment.
Interests and activities
I have been active in sports shooting most of my life since 19 years of age, a member of the SSAA from 1976 to 1983 and from 1996 to the present. Also I have been a member of the Arms Collectors Guild of Tasmania since 1996 to the present serving as their North-West President and Secretary.
Was an active volunteer in the Melrose Barrington Country Fire Brigade from 1987 to about 1997 followed by several years’ service in Volunteer Marine Rescue until 2005.
I was a radio amateur enthusiast (VK7JB) from 1976 to about 2000 until paid broadcast engineering replaced this interest.
I enjoy recreational fishing, learning new things and mucking around in my workshop. Most of my time now is spent with family needs consisting of an aged father, a wife and daughter of 14 years. Current study interests are languages and human phycology.
The past 15 years has been overwhelmingly busy trying to reinvent myself to gain decent employment, much in vain it seems. However the journey has taken me into many interesting places in Australia, New Guinea and a large part of Asia including the Philippines and North Pacific Islands mostly to do with boats in some capacity. Earlier travels consisted of extensive stays in Europe.
Currently upset with nearly all Government initiatives and direction I feel compelled to do all I can to combat the deterioration of Australia and our quality of life. At age 61 consider my options for satisfying career employment under present conditions just about nil, especially in Tasmania that has been hit so hard by Labour and Greens mismanagement.
Family
I have been lucky to have four children who unfortunately have had to leave Tasmania to find their employment and opportunities. I have lived at my current rural address for 31 years.
