BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a survey of American Literature that stresses literary and cultural themes. This course includes a variety of literary genres. There is a strong emphasis on writing, speaking, and discussion. Students will have a good overview of the prevalent themes in American Literature. Students will improve their skills as critical thinkers.EXPECTATIONS:
- Come to class on time, prepared, and ready to learn
- Respect classmates and my classroom
- Read aloud and silently
- Discuss, Present, complete projects, and participate in group work
- Complete assignments neatly and according to instructions
- Expect the same behavior from your classmates
- Be in your desk preparing for the days assignment when the tardy bell rings. Attendance must be taken quickly after the bell.
- Avoid side bar conversations and cell phone use
- Cell Phones should be on silent and put away unless instructed otherwise
- No passes will be given during instruction or tests
- Plagiarism is copying someone else’s work and passing it off as yours and will result in a zero.
Major Assignments 60% - Tests, Projects, Essays
Minor Assignments 40% - daily work (discussion, notes, handouts, class participation)
LATE ASSIGNMENTS:
- 1 day late - 15 points
- 10 each additional day after
- After 3 days students must have special circumstances and teacher approval.
SUPPLIES– DUE by the end of the week of the first day of school.
