Breaking Down Barriers

Do you know what barriers your clients with speech or hearing impairments face in the community? Do you know how they are coping and what needs to change? If not, you need to hear Deborah Maund, an SLP and Regional Coordinator for the Communication Access Now Project (CAN), a national campaign that promotes the rights to access good and services for people who have speech and language disabilities. She witnesses how our clients struggle with being able to get the same quality and range of services we so easily enjoy.

For this presentation, Deborah will provide an overview of current legislation, special CAN projects, and video case examples of challenges she has encountered across Atlantic Canada. Two individuals with communication disabilities will also share their unique insights regarding the barriers they face. Members will be invited to discuss how things are working in their communities and what strategies might be implemented to break down some of these barriers.
